Treat Her Right Members, Gear & Sound

Treat Her Right was a Massachusetts-based quartet known for its unique blend of rock & roll, rockabilly, blues-rock, and swamp-rock, all infused with a post-punk attitude. The group was fronted by former Shane Champagne and Pink Cadillac singer David Champagne. Other members included Mark Sandman (bass, vocals), who later gained fame with the band Morphine, Billy Conway (drums), and Jim Fitting (harmonica). The band was known for avant-garde cover songs and original compositions that pushed the boundaries of their genre mix.

Treat Her Right's sound was a gritty yet refined concoction of blues-infused rock with an experimental edge. With Mark Sandman's distinctive use of the Premier Guitars Multivox Scroll Bass and Fender Telecaster for a deep, resonant tone, the band achieved a sound that was both raw and melodic. The home-made suitcase kick drum wielded by Billy Conway added a rustic, percussive texture that complemented the band's swampy grooves. Their music often featured a dark, atmospheric quality, enriched by the use of slide guitar techniques and harmonica, which provided a haunting, yet soulful resonance.
