About

Trollfest is a Norwegian music group renowned for their vibrant fusion of folk metal, Viking metal, and comic metal. Formed in 2003 by John Espen Sagstad (Mr. Seidel) on guitar and Jostein Austvik (Trollmannen) on vocals, the band also includes members adept with unconventional instruments like the accordion, banjo, and saxophone. This eclectic ensemble creates a unique sound that blends extreme metal with traditional Nordic and Balkan folk influences, delivering a musical experience that is both intense and playful.

How to Sound Like Trollfest

To achieve Trollfest's dynamic and spirited sound, musicians should focus on a blend of raucous, high-energy metal riffs paired with intricate folk-inspired melodies. Guitars typically employ distortion and overdrive to deliver aggressive, driving rhythms, while folk elements are highlighted through the use of acoustic instruments and traditional scales. Incorporating instruments like the accordion and saxophone adds a quirky, festive flair. Percussive elements are crucial, often driving the tempo with a blend of heavy, double-kick patterns and syncopated beats that mirror the band's energetic stage presence. The use of choral and gang vocals enhances the celebratory atmosphere, creating a sound that is as much about having fun as it is about musical prowess.
