About

Witchfynde is an English heavy metal band originating from Nottinghamshire, England. Recognized as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement, the group was formed in the mid-1970s and gained recognition in the early 1980s. The band initially comprised Steve Bridges (vocals), Montalo (guitar), Andro Coulton (bass), and Gra Scoresby (drums). Their sound spans a range of genres, including speed metal and heavy metal, while also incorporating elements of '70s progressive rock and punk rock simplicity. Over the years, Witchfynde has undergone several lineup changes, with notable members such as Pete Surgey (bass) and Luther Beltz (vocals) contributing to their evolving sound.

How to Sound Like Witchfynde

Witchfynde's sound is marked by a blend of melodic heavy metal riffs and atmospheric elements that draw from both the progressive rock and punk rock genres. Their music often features driving, distorted guitar lines that are typically supported by punchy, rhythmic bass and dynamic drum patterns. The band's earlier work leans towards a raw, energetic texture, which is balanced by the occasional use of melodic, high-concept songwriting. Achieving a Witchfynde-like sound involves utilizing overdriven tube amplifiers to capture their vintage metal tone, while analog delay and modulation effects can add depth to their more atmospheric passages. Vocal delivery often combines theatrical elements with a gritty edge, creating a distinctive style that aligns with the dramatic flair of their visual imagery.
