360 Systems is a California-based electronics manufacturer founded in 1972 by Robert Easton, initially building products for the music and recording industries before shifting its focus to professional broadcast audio and video equipment. The company is headquartered in Newbury Park, California.
In the music-instrument era of the late 1970s, 360 Systems collaborated with Tom Oberheim on pitch-to-CV conversion technology. Their first product, the Slavedriver, used a hex pickup to convert guitar signals into control voltages for driving analog synthesizers, and was bundled with Oberheim SEM and OB-1 modules. This was followed by the Spectre, a guitar synthesizer that integrated the Slavedriver circuitry with an Oberheim SEM voice into a single unit. The company later released the MIDI Bass, a rack module that triggered sampled acoustic and electric bass sounds and was marketed under the slogan 'Real Bass In A Box.'
From the 1980s onward, 360 Systems pivoted toward broadcast and pro-AV markets, developing the Permanent Playback digital message players used in theme parks, the DigiCart hard-disk recorder line introduced in 1990, the Instant Replay audio clip player, and the Image Server family of video servers.
