Bookworm Effects is a boutique pedal company based in Morgantown, West Virginia, founded by Brian Spragg. Spragg began building pedals out of frustration with the commercial overdrive and distortion options available, teaching himself circuit design through online tutorials and DIY kits before launching the brand via Kickstarter in 2015. Every Bookworm Effects pedal is named after a character or work from literature, and each enclosure features original artwork by local West Virginia artists — a distinctive approach that bridges the worlds of music, literature, and visual art.

The lineup includes the Billy Pilgrim Overdrive (named after the protagonist of Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five), the Atticus Finch transparent overdrive, the Diving Belles Drive+Distortion (inspired by a Lucy Wood short story), the Malta Kano Distorted Reverb (a digital spring reverb with footswitchable distortion and a TRS effects loop), the Seths Fuzz (drawn from Karen Russell's Swamplandia!), and the BigWig Bass Driver. All pedals are handmade and feature soft-touch true bypass switching.

Beyond pedal building, Spragg is active in the Morgantown music community, teaching pedal construction and music basics through PopShop, a local nonprofit. Artists such as Sara Rudy of Hello June and Derrick Shanholtzer-Dvorak of The World is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die have used Bookworm Effects pedals.
