Davoli is an Italian music gear maker founded in 1957 by Athos Davoli, an electronics engineer from Correggio in the Reggio Emilia region. Operating under the name Davoli Krundaal (the conglomerate Radio Elettromeccanica Krundaal), the company began producing instrument amplifiers and PA systems in the early 1960s, becoming a fixture of Italian live music — its rigs reportedly amplified Italian dates of touring acts including the Beatles and Rolling Stones.
From 1959 onward, Davoli partnered with visionary guitar designer Antonio "Wandré" Pioli, supplying the electronics and trapezoid-shaped "Davoli/Made in Italy" single-coil pickups that appeared on Wandré's aluminum-neck instruments. The collaboration produced unconventional models like the Blue Jeans, the Polyphon (notable for its built-in reverb), the Tigre, and the Krundaal Bikini, an electric guitar paired with a tank-and-wheel-shaped combo amplifier. The Wandré partnership ran until 1970. Under its own name, Davoli also built tube combos such as the Jolly and the Tempest, and in 1972 released the Davolisint, a two-oscillator monophonic synthesizer often cited as the first Italian-made synth.
The company opened a retail showroom in Parma's city center in 1966, on Via Tartini, which continues to operate as Davoli Music Center — a music store carrying instruments and amplification from a wide range of brands alongside the Davoli name.
