Fane is a British loudspeaker manufacturer established in 1958 in Batley, West Yorkshire, by Arthur E. Falkus and Dennis A. Newbold, whose surnames combine to form the company name. The company is now headquartered in Castleford, West Yorkshire, where its drivers are hand-built. Early innovations included the IonoFane plasma tweeter and, in 1967, a glass-fibre voice coil that drove the development of the long-running Crescendo range.
For guitar players, Fane is best known through its Fane Acoustics line of guitar loudspeakers, including the Ascension Series and the Crescendo. The wider Fane Pro Audio catalogue covers component loudspeakers from 5 to 18 inches and high-frequency compression drivers, and the company also produces bespoke OEM drivers for cabinet and amplifier builders.
Fane drivers became closely associated with the British rock sound of the 1960s and 70s, supplying speakers to amplifier makers such as Hiwatt, Sound City, Laney and Vox. The company was owned by the Wharfedale Group from 1989 before being reacquired by the Barnes family in 2007.
