Fessenden Guitar Company is a small pedal steel guitar workshop based in Montpelier, Vermont, founded by Jerry Fessenden. Before launching the company, Fessenden learned the craft at Dekley Guitars in Connecticut, then worked at Sho-Bud in Nashville, and later alongside Tom Brumley at ZB Guitars during the 1970s. He began building under his own name in the late 1980s and relocated the operation to Vermont in the mid-1990s.
The shop is best known for its single- and double-neck pedal steels, including the SD-10 (typically configured with three pedals and five knee levers), the D-10 double-neck, and twelve-string variants. A more affordable six-string model called the Six Shooter was introduced as a simplified, more portable entry point into pedal steel. Fessenden also developed and patented a "clipless rod puller" mechanism that streamlines the changer assembly, which he licensed to other steel guitar builders.
Output has historically been low-volume, with roughly two to three dozen instruments built per year. Fessenden steels have been used by players such as Robert Randolph, Roosevelt Collier, Dean Parks, Kaki King, and Terry Crisp, and have appeared on stages ranging from the Grand Ole Opry to the Super Bowl.
