Garritan is a developer of virtual software instrument libraries founded by professional harpist Gary Garritan, who released the GigaHarp sample library for Gigasampler in 1999. After gaining recognition with Garritan Orchestral Strings — which won an Electronic Musician Editor's Choice Award in 2002 — the company launched Garritan Personal Orchestra (GPO) in 2003, an affordable, complete orchestral sample library that helped democratize access to realistic orchestral sounds for composers and producers. MakeMusic, Inc. acquired the Garritan Corporation in 2011.
