Kitty Hawk is a tube amplifier maker founded in the late 1970s in Bochum, Germany by brothers Tungsten and Gundolf Roy, who had previously run Applied Acoustics, the European distributor for Mesa/Boogie and Dumble. Drawing directly on that exposure, the first Kitty Hawk amp was a close copy of the Dumble Overdrive Special, with a single master volume and two preamp volume controls — a design that famously contributed to Howard Dumble's decision to pot his preamp circuits in epoxy. A blackface-style two-master, two-overdrive variant became the Kitty Hawk Standard, and the company later released the Junior, modeled on the Mesa/Boogie Mark I.

The range expanded to include combos, heads and rack equipment such as the Quattro, a hand-built four-channel tube preamp that gained a cult following among players chasing Dumble-style overdrive in a studio-friendly format. Other models associated with the brand include the M1 combo and the Ring Leader. Production was originally based in Germany before moving to Enschede in the Netherlands, where a former Dutch dealer took over the name and continued building amplifiers and speaker cabinets in small quantities.

Kitty Hawk gear sold widely in Germany and the Netherlands and picked up endorsements from American rock players including Reb Beach of Winger, who used the preamps in his live effects rig. The brand is best known among collectors as the maker of the earliest Dumble-inspired clones, and original Roy-era Standard and Junior amps remain sought after on the vintage market.
