De Virgiliis had previously built amplifiers and cabinets under the Parsek name and collaborated with Music Man on their Audiophile line before launching Markbass with a focus on professional-grade bass equipment that balanced sonic quality with portability. One of the brand's defining early contributions was the adoption of neodymium drivers in bass speaker cabinets, which dramatically reduced enclosure weight without sacrificing output — a development that influenced the wider industry.

The cornerstone of the Markbass lineup is the Little Mark series of bass amplifier heads: compact Class D units offering 300–500 watts of power in enclosures weighing around two kilograms.
