Nelson Guitar Werks is a custom instrument shop run by luthier Bruce Nelson out of West Hills, California. Nelson is best known outside the boutique world as the longtime guitar tech for Stone Temple Pilots, a role that put his builds in front of bassist Robert DeLeo and led to the P/J-style basses that became the shop's signature work.

The shop focuses primarily on bolt-on Precision- and Jazz-style basses, including hybrid PJ configurations. Typical builds feature one-piece alder bodies with nitrocellulose lacquer finishes, quarter-sawn torrified maple necks with Indian rosewood fretboards, block inlays, binding, Lollar P and J pickups with individual volumes and a master tone, and a custom 12-gauge steel through-body bridge with brass saddles. Each instrument is built to order with client input on specs.

Alongside the Robert DeLeo association, Nelson has built instruments for other touring players including Joe Perry. The shop keeps a low commercial profile, operating largely through word of mouth, the bass community on TalkBass, and the @nelsonguitarwerks Instagram account rather than a storefront or broad retail presence.
