Odyssey Guitars is a Canadian guitar maker based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The original company was founded in 1977 by Ken Lindemere, Joe Sallay, and luthier Attila Balogh, who served as production manager and master builder. From a small Vancouver factory, Odyssey produced roughly 2,000 instruments between 1976 and 1982, including solid-body and semi-hollow electric guitars and basses.
The brand became known for highly customized work, with customers often specifying neck profiles, body shapes, and inlays directly to the luthier. Hardware — including bridges and tailpieces — was machined in-house from polished brass, and many instruments featured hand-carved details and unconventional body designs. The Semiacustic series and a range of custom basses are among the more sought-after vintage examples on the secondhand market. Vancouver bass builder Mike Kinal apprenticed with Balogh during this period, and players such as Lindsay Mitchell of Prism owned multiple Odyssey instruments.
Following the company's original run and Balogh's death, the Odyssey name was revived under the Odyssey Guitar Company, which produces new instruments, parts, and apparel from North Vancouver using the original logo. The history of the brand is documented in Craig E. Jones's book Odyssey: Attila Balogh and the Quest for the Perfect Guitar.
