Otto Link is a line of saxophone and clarinet mouthpieces that originated in 1930s New York and has become one of the most widely played mouthpiece brands in jazz. Early models like the Tone Master and Master Link, produced in New York, established the brand's reputation, and after the company was sold in 1950 it moved to Florida, where the Florida-era Super Tone Master metal mouthpieces became highly prized for their bright, projecting sound. Since 1972, Otto Link has been manufactured by JJ Babbitt Company in Elkhart, Indiana, alongside the Meyer and Hite lines.
The catalog centers on the Tone Edge (hard rubber) and Super Tone Master (metal) models for soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophone, with the brand's signature warm, fat tone often attributed to a rollover baffle and wide chamber design. Specialty and reissue offerings include the Vintage Slant Signature, the Early Babbitt (EB), the Florida (FL) anniversary reissue, and the Otto Link LA, a more modern voicing with added clarity and projection. A custom shop offers hand-finished work in both Otto Link and Meyer lines.
Otto Link has long been associated with mainstream jazz tenor saxophone, and generations of players — from Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, and Ben Webster to John Coltrane — have used Links as part of their setups, cementing the mouthpiece's place as a reference point in the jazz tenor sound.
