Redbeard Effects is a UK-based boutique guitar pedal company founded by Mikey Demus, guitarist of ragga-metal band Skindred, and Adrian Thorpe, the pedal designer behind ThorpyFX. Born from Demus's lifelong fascination with effects — sparked by his father's Arion Metal Master pedal in the early 1990s — and Thorpe's internationally recognised engineering expertise, the brand specialises in hand-built analogue effects for high-gain applications, studio-style saturation, and modern fuzz tones. Every pedal is designed, engineered, built, tested, and packaged by hand in the UK.
The product lineup centres on a core "trifecta" of gain pedals: the Red Mist MKIV, a distortion voiced after Demus's Orange RockerVerb 100 MKIII amplifier; the Angry Rhubarb Paradynamic Overdrive MKII, featuring a dual gain-stage and single-band parametric EQ; and the Honey Badger Octave Fuzz, a dual sub-octave fuzz with a switchable octave divider. The range also includes the Bearded Vulture Direct Drive, inspired by the Thermionic Culture Vulture studio rack saturator, and the Hairy Squid, a three-mode colossal fuzz. All pedals emphasise wide tonal range through minimal, precisely calibrated controls.
Redbeard Effects pedals appear on the pedalboards of artists across rock, metal, and alternative genres, including Andy Taylor of Duran Duran, Scott Holiday of Rival Sons, Joe Hottinger of Halestorm, Mike Vennart of Biffy Clyro, Marcus Bridge of Northlane, Tom Gleeson of Feeder, Nova Twins, and Dan Weller of SikTh.
