Sandoval Engineering is the custom guitar shop of Southern California luthier Karl Sandoval, who began building electric guitars in the late 1970s after a stint working alongside Wayne Charvel. Sandoval's early work helped establish the West Coast hot-rodded guitar aesthetic, and he built instruments for a number of players who would go on to define the sound of 1980s hard rock and metal, including Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, and George Lynch.

The shop is best known for the Sandoval Dot V, a mahogany-bodied Flying V-style guitar with a black-and-white polka dot finish, originally delivered to Randy Rhoads in 1979. The original was built around a modified Danelectro maple neck with a rosewood fretboard and bow-tie inlays, two DiMarzio humbuckers (a PAF in the neck, a Super Distortion in the bridge), and a standard vibrato — a spec Sandoval still references on his re-issues and master-built versions of the model.
