Uher is a German audio equipment manufacturer founded in Munich by Hungarian-born inventor Edmund Uher, with Uher Werke München GmbH established in the early 1950s. The company built its reputation on portable open-reel tape recorders, most notably the Report series introduced in 1961. Compact, battery-powered, and rugged, the Report 4000 and its successors — including the 4000 Report IC, 4200 Report Stereo, and 4400 Report Monitor — became standard tools for radio journalists, broadcasters, documentary filmmakers, and field researchers across Europe.

Alongside its recorders, Uher produced a line of dynamic microphones designed primarily as companions to its portable decks, with the M534 and M539 tubular directional mics being the most widely circulated models. The brand also built consumer-oriented reel-to-reel machines such as the Royal and Variocord series, and later moved into dictation equipment as magnetic tape gave way to newer formats.

Uher tape recorder production wound down by the end of the century, and the brand name has since been held by Assmann Electronics. Uher gear circulates primarily on the vintage market today, where the Report series in particular remains sought after by collectors, tape enthusiasts, and musicians who use the machines for tape-saturation and analog recording workflows.
