DJ Greedy uses Roland R-70 Human Rhythm Composer DJ Greedy uses Roland R-70 Human Rhythm Composer

In this 2017 with The Quietus, DJ Clent reveals one collaborator DJ Greedy's key tools of the trade:

Q: What was your setup when you first started producing?

DC: I didn’t have my own equipment. My first tracks were made at DJ Greedy’s house. He had a Roland R70 and a cheap DJ mixer with a push button sampler. We would make the beat in the R-70 and then record samples into the mixer. There was no midi, no sync. Now, everything is automated. It’s much easier.

Steve O’Sullivan uses Boss Dr. Rhythm DR-660 Steve O’Sullivan uses Boss Dr. Rhythm DR-660

In this 2014 interview for inn8.net, Steve O'Sullivan recounts how he got started with production:

I went to university and by the time that had finished House and Techno were well and truly in my blood and I think the whole DIY ethic of that scene appealed to the wannabe producer in me. So , when I was again walking past another music shop (bit of a recurrent theme I know) and saw a Boss Dr660 in the window – I went inside, had a demo and bought it there and then. That must’ve been around the end of 1992/early 1993 I think. I decided after that to develop my set up in a bit of a more serious way.

Good luck finding one

I didn't realize these were so rare.

My 4020FM is over 10lb. It has a half inch maple slab on top of it, and i think the back is swamp ash. It's 25 inch scale as well which is weird.

Sounds and plays awesome. The bridge is really nice too. Almost 20 years old, neck is still razor straight.

Paul Johnson uses Boss Dr. Rhythm DR-660 Paul Johnson uses Boss Dr. Rhythm DR-660

In this 2019 interview for lebronjames.co (huh? yeah, no idea what's going on there), Gant Man recounts the gear he encountered at Paul Johnson's house:

Q: What was that first pro equipment that you were learning on?

When I first started messing around, I was probably eleven or twelve, and my brother had a Boss Dr. Rhythm DR-110, this really old-school, very limited drum machine. It sounded like a baby, puny 808. Then my brother also had a Roland TR-707 around, and that’s when I actually started learning how to program a little bit better. The radio station had a production studio that had an old-school Yamaha drum machine, but it was kinda weak. It didn’t really have the sounds that we liked to use. So when I got to Paul Johnson’s house, he had a Boss Dr. Rhythm 660 and an Akai S01 sampler, plus a mixing board, studio monitors, cassette deck and all that. He eventually upgraded to a Roland R70 drum machine from there, and then a MPC3000. So my production kind of advanced from there.
