Anyone bought any new cds or downloaded anything or gowever you get your music?

Having the cd is better than any dl. I for the most part play metal but have a wide variety of music i like even some soul, blues and the like i like the cds vs jumping around on a device while driving. And by buying a cd i rip noone off

I now download the songs on Amazon so I have them forever, and then burn them to a CD+R for the car.

I should get myself a record player...

It's expensive if you want it done right. You need a really end end needle, arm, and gears to truly enjoy the high grain masterpieces. We're talking 1200 minimum for an entry level music machine.

I knew a guy in Austin who worked for Best Buy and got crazy discounts on high end magnolia merchandise. He had a plush carpet room with amazing sofas and chair that faced a record player. 3D Surround sound system and a 10,000 record player. He put on Metallica's black album "Bigger, Louder, Better" or something. I think it was a 180 grain set. It moved me. I was actually teary eyed hearing music so perfectly. The guitars and bass all came from different speakers which made it so easy to separate their parts. The drum kick intro on "Of Wolf and Man" was so deep and 3-Dimensional. Sounded like the massive bass drum was coming from down a long tunnel and then right up to your face.

Now THAT is a dream i'm willing to chase. I've only heard rumours of the spund quality of a great record player coupled with high-quality speakers AND a room dedicated to focusig all soud on the user...

I'll chase that.

I have decided that the first song i'd play if this dream were achieved would be The Great Gig in the Sky.

I could agree with that, any Floyd really. By the way, if you did get tickets for TTNG, I think he's touring with Mylets, so, sorry to be a pain, but could you see what guitar he's using, I still can't find it anywhere (http://audiotree.tv/session/mylets)? He also has a backup, which I think is my model of JM if I'm not mistaken

Not a pain at all. Problem is, they're not touring with TTNG. It's the 22nd of July at the Teragram Ballroom. Mylets is playing at the Roxy Theatre on the 30th of September. I might check them out. If I do, I'll make sure to check out their gear.

vinyl? its okay... I have heard some AMAZING record players mounted on gyroscopic labs in mastering facilities... they sound decent.... MP3 and a lot of CD sounds so bad and its so normal for people younger than me that they forget how good even cheap stereo gear sounded in the 80s and early 90s... and I caught the tail end of hfi

portability is what drives music reproduction markets now, sound quality is no longer a priority for the majority

me? I enjoy listening to 1/2" and 1/4" copies of master tapes if I can get 'em LOL

that's some sound quality if you have a good deck

YISS

Most of my new music comes from Shoutcast. I record stations overnight and I wrote a program to delete everything I've ever heard before. I listen to what I recorded for a week or a month, and if I hear something I like, I keep it. If I hear something I love, I buy it. In the last few years the only thing I've really loved is by Utada Hikaru (not her American release).

I was looking for music without royalties and found this guy. He's okay.

Apparently AudioTree's live performances are even more amazing when purshased. For some reason, I only expected the music, was surprised when I got interviews as well.

I purchased one for This Town Needs Guns and Caspian. I'm a very happy person right now.

I've been kinda rediscovering Richie Hawtin...

and actually discovering his post-rave super-minimal stuff which I failed to notice at the time.

I might be late to the party on this, but John Mayer just Instagrammed the cover of Tame Impala's album Currents and said:

This is the best* record of the past two or three years. Proven many times over in my mind. Think Radiohead 1996. Coldplay 2003. Phoenix 2008. Melody heaven. If I ever got broken up with by a girl for the guy in Tame Impala I'd be like, "I understand, and if you don't mind, could you maybe bring him to a show of mine sometime?" *my opinion duh

I REALLY like 1996 Radiohead/2003 Coldplay/2008 Phoenix. Going to give this a listen this morning for sure.

It sure is tame haha. So far it's... okay. I'm sure it needs more listens. As of now I much prefer Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, in fact now I'm in the mood to listen to that :)

Wow, haven't listened to Wolfgang or Rush of Blood in forever... Welp, I got time. Might as well give them a second listen.

Just downloaded it. I guess math rock is now a new favourite for me.

A friendly reminder to you lot that even though it may not seem so, some of us do listen to the music you drop in this thread.
