Complaints, Concerns, Errors, Suggestions, and Ideas!

Hi Gang,

I see a lot of talk about wanting categories.

I might have a temporary solution.

I have trialled them on my Equipboard page (click my name to get there).

I have copied most of the icons from the Equipboard site artist pages, relabelled, resized and shaped and have submitted some of them under the search titles of: "My Bass", "My guitar" etc. to split my personal Equipboard into categories.

You still add items normally, and still need to push them through the items on your Equipboard one space at a time until you have it where you want it as normal, but it sorts them a bit.

I tried to do a blank, or a "more gear coming" submission ... just so you can have a new category on a new line each time, but have not submitted yet.

I have not submitted them all yet, in case there is a better solution available, but have logos ready for AMP, BASS, CYMBALS, DAW, DRUMS, EFFECTS, GUITAR, HEADPHONE, KEYBOARDS AND SYNTHS, MICROPHONES, MORE GEAR COMING, OTHER GEARS, SOFTWARE AND VST, STUDIO EQUIPMENT and STUDIO MONITORS. I will add the rest under the search title of "My ______" when I get time.

I hope this is ok, and I hope some find them useful, until a better solution is written into the site.

y'know guys, its been said MANY TIMES already here, but again we really need categorized user pages. Mine is a total mess, I can't take it anymore. When can you fit this project in and how long will the retool take EB down for? Its time to answer the people and get on with it.

Michael and I were talking this one out just yesterday. It's a big project no doubt. It wouldn't take the site down per se, but it would just take a little while to work out. I've mentioned before, we're a small operation compared to how big this site has gotten and how much traffic it gets! Good problem to have, though

We're thinking about options to help us expedite this project, including possibly hiring some dev help. The wheels are in motion for it, just need to plan for the time/cost it'll take. I'll post more updates here as they happen.

I wish I were a decent coder, I would help with some of the grunt work, but alas I never learned. Always tubes and transistors, 1s and 0s never interested me as much... there must be someone with skills on the site who could donate some time though!

I'm not dumb, maybe I can teach myself enough to help Gchiaren and Michael facilitate this much needed upgrade....

My skills stop with a digital forensics background, and if it was a Mac, I would just wonder my way through it like a lost child in Walmart.

Don't bother. Tried once, nearly shot myself.

Michael and I truly appreciate everyone's willingness to pitch in and help! Not to worry about the actual coding part, we'll get that handled.

Michael and I's homework is to read through all the various ideas from the forum and emails you guys have sent us regarding member boards. We all agree they need to be overhauled and better organized, but everyone has had a slightly different take on what that could look like!

We'll come up with what a good improvement would entail, and I anticipate needing you guys' input on if you think it's a good solution or not.

I think you didn't expect the members would have such a psychotic amount of gear laying around when you started up ;-) but some of us have whole rooms fulla stuff, I can dedicate a room just to guitars and amps before worrying about synths and then the studio space? I took over a whole closet for stuff tht doesn't rank as 'every day' gear that needs to stay wired up in Daddy's studio corner...

how's the baby?

Hah that's certainly part of it! I think what was also unexpected is how much Equipboard users enjoy the 'pro board' layout (granted it also is not perfect). It's great to see so many people wanting to use EB as their home on the web to catalogue their gear... now we've got some improvements to make! ;)

Baby (X2) are good, happy and healthy, thanks for asking!

I mean, I tried once in high school. Those massive coding books are impossible to read, and I just gave up. Plus, this was the time I was gunning for more books to read.

I'm trying to get back to that kind of time. But if you learn, good on you!

try the handbook of acoustics or learning how a guitar amp works in detail... but I don't know I have the time to learn another engineering discipline...

though technical details get me all hot and bothered.... mmm slew rates and bias supplies, room modes and diffusion of low frequency standing waves.... yum
