Dummy!

http://equipboard.com/pros/sinavalikhani

So apparently this guy created a professional's profile for himself... All the submissions are utter crap too, he's just linking his social media, adding a description that makes no sense or is the name of the plugin/equipment itself... I have no idea what he's trying to do but the board should be deleted....

we don't usually use that term, retard? to me its less about being PC and more about not insulting people whoa re legitimately retarded by comparing them to people with the capacity for complex thought who just can't be bothered.... you know, assholes?

His account is closed.

Guys, accounts can be closed.

GUYS, ^^^

Is there a way to get rid of the pro page as well?

Got fans everywhere wow.... Feel awful terrible I don't watch the show... not really my thing xD I don't watch any of the new shows that are out now... was more of a House person

I'm sure the site admins can do that

Somehow I imagine a little kid pleading everyone I read this.... adds humour to the comment lol

If he's Cornell's brother, the term is "Guitard" as it only offends people who willingly make the choice of being a guitar player :D

Stop. Please. xD xD Oh my god I don't regret a single day on this site Except when I'm not contributing to it :/ Love you guys (no homo)

It's not the only case of a user doing that, I saw other before and I'll guess I'd post it here if I find it again.

GEAR:

Thanks for chiming in on this everyone.

Yeah, it's definitely not the first time someone that's not a "pro" creates a pro artist profile for themselves, and submits a bunch of gear to it. We don't really have a mechanism to prevent that at the moment.

We do have some guidelines on what it means to be a pro artist. Just for reference, here they are:

  • They have a Verified Twitter account
  • They have a verified profile or Page on Facebook
  • They are covered/interviewed by one or more legitimate media publications (e.g. Rolling Stone, Guitar Player, Billboard, Future Music)
  • They have a catalogue of music releases (if on a label, preferably on a somewhat well-known label)
  • They have toured, and there is existing proof of this
  • They have a very large social media following *
  • They are an influencer in a specialized channel (e.g. a YouTube personality with followers in the 6-7 figure range)

  • this is not always a great signal, since social media followers can be purchased.

We probably need to place these guidelines in a help section of Equipboard, and maybe even at the bottom of the Add a New Artist form. If you all think we need to revise these in any way, shape, or form, we are totally open to suggestions! We love building Equipboard with you guys' help, after all it's all about the community.

Luckily, it's not a huge deal right now if people like the guy ridwan pointed out make themselves a pro. There's a bit of a built-in safeguard. Pro artists on Equipboard are sorted by popularity based on algorithms we come up with (this includes things like total number of page views, page views on a recent block of time, number of follows, etc). I can go create a pro page for myself, gchiaren, right now but since nobody is searching me, it won't really be surfaced. If anything, my reviews might litter the "Pros Using This" section of an item. It's a lot like Wikipedia in this way, where any member of the community can create pages, but if the Wikipedia page doesn't make sense or isn't needed, it never really surfaces anywhere.

I can take care of deleting that SINAVALIKHANI guy's Equipboard, his comments/reviews add little or no value unfortunately.

And finally, perhaps we should come up with some basic forum guidelines just so there are no personal attacks on people. Equipboard is a pretty international community and I understand sometimes there's a language barrier, but some language might cross a line. If you all find some "behavior" guidelines on a forum that you like, I'd be happy to borrow those and institute them here.

Thoughts?

Well... I guess the language you're referring to is me calling him a retard? If so I feel pretty sheepish.... Considering I'm only 15 (There are no age guidelines right? Please let there not be any :( )

that's a good list of criteria to be a pro, because the last 2 lock me out from being a pro these days and otherwise I would squeak in even though I haven't done anything but the odd studio gig professionally for the last decade and despite some good press, my most popular band was a regional act at best.... I know better than to start my own pro page, but maybe when someone adds a new one you should require them to post some documentary evidence to justify the person as an EB-worthy pro so that accomplished amatures and failed pros will refrain from creating their own pro pages with the intent of usng EB to hype their projects? The forum is a great place to share your music, a phoney pro page is not.

the sorting algorithm is totally fascinating, I feel like a luddite for not knowing these things existed....

as for behavior? we can all be unintentionally rude sometimes (I mean, some of us are grimey punk rockers and many of us are opinionated, egotistical guitarists -- wait, did I need those 2 adjectives? there's no other kind of guitarist and in case you think I'm pointing the finger at anybody I am as bad as they come) BUT we all know how to blow eachother off and move on even in lieu of an actual apology. We don't get flame wars on here even when the forum's buzzing with activity. Its not gearslutz, thank god. A behavioral code? Pretty simple. If its something you would feel embarrassed to say at a family dinner party then you should consider keeping it to yourself or rephrasing it.... even on an internet forum (and unlike a dinner party its hard to just blurt something out and wish you could take it back because you have to TYPE it first ;-) Whenever a forum lays down rules, I head for the hills because that means its littered with people who think there is a different standard for polite conversation on the internet than there is at the bar (fear of getting punched in the face for saying something universally offensive keeps people in line in real life, the internet relies on common sense.... maybe the world needs an angry barfly app that drunkenly threatens people with violence when they cross the line j/k).

The name of this thread was potentially offensive, maybe even a little offensive TO ME before I reminded myself that the OP probably meant nothing by it and doesn't have any way of knowing that my beloved cousin Jenny is handicapped in this way. I don't think it was lost on anyone that the OP is a younger member, probably a highschool sophomore, so a little sophomoric language is par for the course. He's a kid and I am not a big fan of beating on kids, literally or metaphorically. Adolescence is about testing boundaries and we all did it and we all hurt some feelings in the process, probably without thinking twice about it. Most of us who are now adults probably do not even remember all the foolishness that came out of our teenaged mouths. Its always harder to point the finger at yourself than at someone else, right?

Rather than make a rule it's easier and more effective to point out that "retard" was being used in an inappropriate way for a public forum with a hit of comedy mixed in to keep it all friendly. You want to talk smack in private with your bandmates? That's your business (they probably know you mean nothing by it and that you are not really a knuckle dragging bigot... after all, there are a lot of potentially offensive pieces of slang that are still common parlance whether we like it or not), but you wouldn't use 'retard' this way in your bands' 1st rolling stone interview, would you? you would never get another scrap of press if you did and you would know that. If everyone would try to handle this sort of thing with some finesse on the off occasions that it happens? Well, we will all get on better and have a better time. In my experience, a little wit and wisdom go further in making the world a better place than all the laws and rules you can dream up. Tact opens minds, not a big stick. I hope we can avoid laying down any forum rules. We're all smarter than that here, even the youngsters.

now, in the spirit of humor that I wlaked into this thread with I am compelled to say that the new thread name, "Dummy" ??? potentially offensive to ventriloquists everywhere!

And before Narcy says anything, please excuse my piss-poor grammar and stream of consciousness sentence structure (or lack thereof). LOL

There's a medium barrier here. As you cans see, I say one thing, and just flew to the right and away. I think he started understanding towards the end... sort of.

This is just an example of how basic etiquette shouldn't be.

Also, this site has a reputation of not using full stops. This has nothing to do with the language barrier, people just always forget their full stops.

Well said.

OP? (Idk what that means) I'm sorry if that means me and I may have insulted your family... it's more or less the language I kinda got adopted into by my surroundings

you're the OP in this situation (original poster).... but its no big deal, I wouldn't have made a joke out of it (twice) if it were... I was hoping my original joke would give you a gentle heads up as well as prevent additional comments flying your way but it didn't quite work out so I wound up writing 3 paragraphs of hippy BS... shit, I need more cigarettes
