Looking for Compressor Pedals

Hey everyone, I am looking to start research on a few compressor pedals but I'm not exactly sure where to begin. Anyone know where i should start? Most of the stuff Im looking eventually own is higher end boutique equipment.

For bass or electric guitar? And do you have a budget in mind?

GEAR:
  • Fender Telecaster Custom Electric Guitar
  • Big Ear Pedals Woodcutter
  • HeadRush FRFR Go Portable Desktop Amplifier

For electric guitar and no budget in mind really. Looking for higher end gear so I'm already assuming its going to be pricey. But money isn't the issue, i just want to compare and contrast between the best compressor pedals available.

oooOoOo no budget - fun :D

Ok jokes aside, here are some boutique-ish ones I would look at:

Xotic Effects SP Compressor Pedal

In the $130 range, rarely ever see anything but glowing reviews for this thing. Supposedly built to resemble the Ross Compressor.

Wampler Ego

$200-ish, pretty high end, lots of country guys use it.

Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone

$170, really good quality, has a grit knob which some people produce cool sounds with.

Thanks man, these are all great suggestions! Ive been doing a bit of research on them and I think I'm leaning slightly towards the Xotic SP.

I'd recommend the Xotic as well. Very transparent and sounds great at either end of the dial and everywhere in between. Good luck with your search!

Really good suggestions. Each person will hear something different but the 2 I like are...

  1. Keeley 4 Knob Compressor

  2. JHS Pulp 'N' Peel

If you don't want to spend that much on one of those I don't think you can go wrong with an MXR Dyna Comp. Again, it's all about personal preference. 1st post BTW. Hi everybody.

Those are great recommendations kellen2. I feel like those are both pretty boutique. Man I love anything from JHS, such a cool company! It's hard to get excited about a demo video of a compressor since it isn't an in-your-face effect, but this is pretty cool:

Oh and congrats on the 1st post, welcome to Equipboard! Nice gear collection 😄

GEAR:

Thanks for kind words! I work at a guitar store which has given me the opportunity to use a lot of gear. I know most people don't get amped for a compressor video, but I'm a gear nut and can't help it...

Awesome stuff guys, Ill definitely be looking into all these suggestions. Just from online videos Im liking how the Xotic is sounding and money v. boardspace it seems like it might be my first try. I might head into a guitar center pretty soon and give it a try.
