New Equipboard Categorization - FAQ & Feedback

Hi all,

You may have noticed we quietly rolled out something you have been asking for for a long time... your Equipboards are now categorizable like pro artists! Everyone starts off with just a Gear list (and a Want list, we kept that the same as before). There's an orange button in the sidebar that reads CATEGORIZE YOUR GEAR. This is where the magic happens, and will allow you to add categories to your board:

After that you get to select what sections are most applicable to you, and you can drag & drop to rearrange their order. That way a guitarist for instance can customize their sections differently (Guitars, Pedals, Amps) than an electronic music producer might (DAWs, VSTs, Synths).

You'll also notice we moved things like Submissions and Gear Porn to the sidebar, and got rid of the horizontal tab bar.

Q: Where are the sections coming from?

A: They are the same ones that are found on pro artist pages.

Q: I don't see a section I need. How do I add one?

A: We pull the ones you see from a pre-set list of about 60 sections. We only exposed the most popular ones to start with, but if you want one that's not showing up (i.e. Pianos or Woodwinds), ask us in this thread and if enough people are requesting we're happy to add more.

Q: An item on my board should be in a section, but it's still in Other Gear. What gives?

A: What section an item goes into is determined by the item's category. It's probably that the item in question is either incompletely or incorrectly categorized.

Q: I have a bug fix or feature request related to this. Can I ask here?

A: Yes! Let's keep any and all feedback related to the new board layout in this thread. If you have feedback not related to this, please keep that to the general feedback thread.

Oh goodie, oh goodie, oh goodie! Thanks for that! Now I feel like a pro, even though there are 10-watt beginner amps linked to my name!

Nice! Hope you're liking it and that it's working ok. There's a lot of code behind this change! 😅

Small amps don't make ya any less pro, check out Tom Morello! ;)

Hi,

Microphones don't have a home yet, and it seems a Roland Jazz Chorus is a Power Amplifier, not an Amplifier.

Other than that, It looks awesome! Thank you!

  • Fender MIJ Jazzmaster JM62
  • Epiphone Dot
  • Electro-Harmonix Sovtek "Green Russian" Big Muff Pi V7C

it seems like a great method but its not working for me.... every time I try it this morning it tells me you're upgrading your equipment with that splash page or if I try internet explorer it just won't work at all.... in fact, the whole site doesn't load right in internet explorer since Wednesday's (or maybe it was Tuesday's) mandatory windows 10 update... its fine in chrome and firefox though other than the new sort feature.

Did I just miss the boat on this because I was too busy to try it yesterday? Did you take it down because it was just a beta test or something?

but yeah, also, the site doesn't run on internet explorer anymore on either of my machines.... not a huge deal, but just a heads up you should be aware of.

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

the jazz chorus is user error, whoever psoted it posted it wrong back in the early days of the site.... ir emember early on amplifiers used to be a confusing and murky category but in the last eyar or so it tightened up as GC and Michael tighted thigns up.... but there are still holdovers.

Wouldn't microphones be studio equipment? Even the lowly 57 and 58 are commonly used in the studio....

Hey Jim, I'd love more details. We need to look into all this stuff, if you're experiencing it I'm sure you're not the only one!

every time I try it this morning it tells me you're upgrading your equipment with that splash page

Every time you try what, exactly?

if I try internet explorer it just won't work at all.... in fact, the whole site doesn't load right in internet explorer since Wednesday's (or maybe it was Tuesday's) mandatory windows 10 update

Can you be more specific about "won't work at all"? Is the way it looks messed up? Or does it actually not function or load? Any way you can email a screenshot to michael or I of what it looks like on IE?

the site doesn't run on internet explorer anymore on either of my machines

Again, what do you mean "doesn't run"? That sounds like a pretty crazy bug we need to take care of asap!!

Thanks man

Okay, we've now added Microphones as a available section, so tell me if you aren't seeing it.

  • Fender American Original '50s Telecaster

Sweet! Thanks Michael, that is working fine and they added straight up. I am on Internet explorer also, and in Australia. Have not experienced any problems at all. (Sorry James)

to organize my equipboard, should I try again now that microphnes were added?

yeah, when I get a sec I'll show you the glitchy IE version of EB, maybe this evening, have to go get the kid froms chool in a few though

the site doesn't run on internet explorer anymore on either of my machines

the way it loads is weird, it loads a tiny times new roman font for msot of teh text, the buttons and hyperlinks are in the wrong palces, everything is jacked up... and its taking like 10 minutes to laod each page, but only in IE, though on both my work machines which both just got a mandatory windows update.... I'll hit you back when I get a sec to load soem fo the pages, make screenshots, and put them on imgur

just got home, when I tried to categorize my board again I still got this generic EB error page when I hit save: UPGRADING OUR EQUIPMENT, PLEASE CHECK BACK SOON. IN THE MEANTIME, CHECK OUR TWITTER FOR UPDATES.

here's what my startpage looks like in IE all of the sudden:

http://imgur.com/a/vjuTB

notice the oddball font and how there's weird overlapping text.... its doing this to some degree no matter what I do my font size as in IE's preferences and its laggy too, whereas on the same machine in chrome its fine; looks normal, runs fast (though i can't organize my equipboard, it fails every time I hit save).... additionally, every other site I've glanced at in IE is loading normally, its just ours that's being screwy. Its not a huge deal to me, but it might be to someone so now you know.

Why on EARTH are you using Internet Explorer sir?

I usually don't for recreation, but I just happened to have it open for something work related that the government portal only works in IE (it even says so on the state's site, microsoft kickback anyone?) and opened EB in a new tab and found it no longer loads right in IE

Asking the real questions.

GEAR:

Thanks for the screenshot. It looks like primarily a font problem, the correct EB fonts aren't loading in IE. Noted.

I want to fix the "UPGRADING OUR EQUIPMENT" thing for ya. You said, when "I hit Save". Where exactly? The new 'categorize your gear' screen? Are you able to get to the screen where you can drag & drop to sort your sections?

GEAR:
  • Fender Telecaster Custom Electric Guitar
  • Big Ear Pedals Woodcutter
  • HeadRush FRFR Go Portable Desktop Amplifier

exactly, I can't get to the screen where I drag and drop my gear into my categories

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

Are you able to get to here at least?

i can, and it won't let me drag the categories.

I never dragged anything. Just click what cats you want and select YES or SUBMIT or something. Then go to your board and the gear will automatically have been re-arranged. Then you can use the small arrows on the bottom of each item to move them up or down in order.

yeah but it asks you to drag them in the order you like them. for example, i want basses first but in the default order they go after my amps and pedals.
