Posting New Gear

Hi, I'm very new to the site and consequently I have a few questions regarding posting new gear. I really like what I've seen so far and I want to contribute. Is the central idea to share the gear of the pros or for everyone to network and share what they own? Perhaps both. I have a bunch of gear that isn't listed on the site and I'm not sure if any pros are currently using it. Can/should I list it? In regards to photos of the gear, should I be taking my own photos or is it ok to grab something professional from the manufacturer's site or a dealer like MF? Again, I'm stoked to be a part of this community and want to help it grow.

Hey Kellen, I just started using this site too and am super into it. Yea i feel like it is totally cool to just start posting any of the gear you want/already have. I already threw up a few items im planning on getting too. And im sure its cool to to use a picture of your own or the manufacturing picture. I know I went to google images and just took the best and clearest looking pictures i could find.

Hi Kellen, welcome to Equipboard!

We're working on cataloging all of the gear used by notable artists, and we'd also like lesser known artists to share what they use and how they use it. So definitely both.

If something you have isn't on the site yet, you can add it by clicking on the Submit option in the site header and selecting Music Gear. It's generally preferred that you choose a manufacturer/dealer product photo when submitting gear, as that will be the image that shows up when gear is added to a pro artist or a members collection/wantlist.

The gear reviews you're writing are great. We're stoked to have you as part of this community!

Hey Andrew, welcome to Equipboard! And thanks for jumping in to answer Kellen's question. :)

Thank you both for responding to my questions. I'll keep that in mind when I start posting new gear. Also, is it acceptable to post equipment that artists have used in the past (that I can confirm) but no longer use? Thanks for the compliment, I'm glad to be here!

Definitely. If you can provide a verifiable source with the submission, go for it!

Great, thanks!

How long does it usually take to have submissions accepted or denied?

Hey boom762, normally we aim for a day or two but lately submissions have been skyrocketing and our moderators are swamped (it's a good problem to have... but we need to speed it up)!!

Top secret info 😄 --> We're actually working on a way where if people prove that they make good contributions (say, 2 or 3 solid and correct submissions), they will then gain the power to submit directly, without having to be in "pending" status first. Does that make sense?

Would love any feedback you all have on this!

GEAR:
  • Fender Telecaster Custom Electric Guitar
  • Big Ear Pedals Woodcutter
  • HeadRush FRFR Go Portable Desktop Amplifier

That idea would be very helpful! ^_^

In addition to mods accepting the submissions, I think it would keep the board more accurate if there was an add-on to that. For explanation purposes, lets call accurate members "trustees".

I think if it took 3 trustees to vote on accurate gear as an alternate way of submission acceptance, it would cut down on the likelihood of getting the wrong gear on an artists page.

I think it would be nice to have a "Challenge" button somewhere so if we see the wrong gear, it gets flagged and other members can come in and debate or vote whether or not it's accurate pending what evidence is posted to support it.

Will this end all wrong gear from getting posted? No. But It would make it more of a pain in the butt for people intentionally trying to wreck or spam the site.

I really dig the idea for this site. Everyone likes to keep a list of gear they use somewhere and I personally am always spending hours hunting down wikis, forums, band pages, and youtube for different gear. I think as members, our goal should be to first get the easy stuff out of the way. Other sites that list gear for members should be browsed and if the gear is accurate, added here. If we do that with all the others (UberPro, Premier Guitar, etc) and have all the content they do, we can then expand beyond them and quicker. That would make EquipBoard THE gear lookup source on the net. I'm doing this with my favorite bassists for now but when I run out of sources, Ill start going into other genres I'm not familiar with.

I'm going to post a link to over here on TalkBass. There is an amazing list of bass players Ive never heard of in my life, with unusual one of a kind gear that TalkBassers talk about. I'm sure in no time at all they'd have the bass player section overloaded with Jazz musicians with names we cannot pronounce. :)
