The Hello-Thread: Please Allow Me To Introduce Myself 👋

That's fair, I guess he was such a huge figure in creating Afrobeat his influence would reach here. Bit of a controversial figure from what I know.

I find it interesting that you guys know of Fela. I didn't realize his music had that kind of reach.

America is a really mixed bag, man. Its huge and populous. What hits your country from our mainstream media is not reflective of our actual culture because that mass culture is a myth, it's really state by state, city by city and in the arts there's lots of little communities linked by a variety of subcultures. It's really weird here. So Fela doesn't have that kind of reach into America in general, but he has influence with a certain muso sub-culture which Spruce and I both belong to even though we've never even met.

Hi, I'm a singer/songwriter based in Manchester, UK. I've been singing for decades in bands, ranging from punk to soul, jazz, experimental electronica and reggae. But recently I've decided that I want to explore performing solo sets with gear including loopers, samplers, FX pedals, a groove box and two vintage Japanese synths. I'm really here to learn from people more knowledgeable about equipment than me, because I'm still learning how to use intuitively and creatively the gear that I have recently bought.

Love that bass playing. I used to be into soukous and rhumba back in the 1990s.

Hi. Name's Grady. You can call me that.

My instrument journey starts at age 6. I was signed up for piano lessons. Quit at age 9. Learned French horn for middle school band class. Picked up trumpet because mellophones and trumpets have the same fingerings. Got a harmonica to only play Piano Man. Got a bass christams '24.

Music taste: can enjoy anything (except pop not in the 1980s), but prefer rock n roll. Any rock will do, except The Beatles and Black Flag (seriously how did that make it to 1001 albums?).

1001 albums project

album rating i seriously need to update this...

Hi everyone! I'm from Russia, but I live in Belarus (you probably know why). I really love Japanese music, including visual kei and more. My favorite bands are Sukekiyo, Dir En Grey, and many others. I only use Japanese musical instruments. It's important to me to have the best instrument I can afford. So now i use ESP FRX, Momose MJ bass and K.Yairi 1999's acoustic guitar. I sincerely wish to create the same experimental and progressive music that the Japanese make. There are quite a lot of imitators in Russia, but nothing really worthwhile. So at the moment I write music alone. I hope to release an album this year.

My tracks are a work in progress. But if you want to hear what inspires me, here's a short list: Dir En Grey - Vinushka This is a song by a Japanese band with a Russian name. The title translates as "guilt," but in a diminutive form. The diminutive form of the word is often used to describe something dear to you, something you love very much. The song "Vinushka" is about the war that is ingrained in human nature. The only thing we can do is accept this war within ourselves. Dir En Grey's song "The World Of Mercy" is on the same theme. Dir En Grey combine metal, opera and orchestra into a very dark, gloomy and stylish avant-garde sound. I highly recommend listening to Sukekiyo, including 白濁, 艶 and their other songs. This music needs to be given a chance, it is very different from other music, so you might not like it at first.
