Small, sleek, and thoughtfully designed
The Walrus Canvas Power series of power supplies is impressive. They’re boutique quality, very well designed, sleek and compact, and very thoughtful in terms of features. The smallest of the pack is the Walrus Canvas Power 5, which will supply clean power to 5 of your precious pedals.
Obviously, this one is the most affordable of the bunch, and stripped of a few features compared to its larger siblings. It sports 5 isolated power outputs, delivering up to 500mA of power at 9v. The 5th outlet lets you switch between 9v/12v/18v in case one of your pedals needs or supports that.
Just like all the other Canvas Power Supplies, each output has a green LED that lights up to assure you that it’s delivering power out of that output - it’s a small detail but we love it. The 5 power cables it includes have a 90-degree plug on the pedal end, which is a thoughtful space-saving feature. Oh, and you also get mounting brackets to help with some pedalboard installations.
And speaking of installation, we love how compact the Canvas Power 5 is. It’s 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, 2 inches (5 cm) deep, and 1 inch (2.5 cm) tall. That’s smaller and sleeker than many other 5-output pedal power supplies we’ve tried!
Note: You can order this for use in the US, UK, Australia, or Europe. Also, you can order it as the standalone power supply or the linkable version, which you can chain to another supply via 24v power link. This is a nice option to have as your pedal collection grows.
If you were to upgrade to the Walrus Canvas Power 8, you would get an LED power consumption meter, and a USB-C port to charge your phone. We really miss those features in the Power 5, and would have gladly paid a little more to have them.
Aside from those minor drawbacks, if you have a very compact board and have 5 pedals to power, this is a great little power supply. There was no unwanted noise, pops, cracks, or interference with all 5 outputs used at once. Clean power delivery all around in an attractive little package.
Bottom Line: It costs a little bit more than some other 5 output pedal power units, but honestly it’s worth it to get the little thoughtful details, the compact size, not to mention being able to deliver an ample 500mA of power.
