About this setup
This gear photo by jkettlewell features 3 pieces of gear, including Marshall 1960A 300W Cabinet, Marshall 1959SLP MK II Reissue 2-Channel 100-Watt Guitar Amp Head, and Universal Audio OX. The rig is mostly high-end pieces. Artists with this kind of gear are most often found in the Rock, Pop, and Metal scenes.
Nice one, you using the Universal Audio OX as attenuator or for recording ? Does it the job at home as an attenuator or still too loud ?
The Ox does a decent job at attenuating for home use. When I'm using it with the Marshall and have it set on the lower settings it gets a little mushy. I wouldn't recommend it solely for attenuating (as you can find much more cost effective options for that) but it is the best in my opinion for recording. I just picked up a Tone King Ironman II that I'm experimenting with now for attenuation only. The sound quality through the speakers is better as far as I can tell thus far.
Ah Thanks, then I will go more for the Fryette PS-100 Power Station 100W, I think.
I think that would be an excellent choice. The PS-2 might be worth looking at too depending on what you're needing.
Sick photo. We did a rundown of amp attenuators here curious to get you all's take :)
Thank you both , I took a look on the Best 6 , I think I will stay with the Fryette PS-100 , I can use the Dual Channel, its a big plus to the PS-2 and it seems to be the best option for the JCM800 and a Hot Rod.
That was a great write up. I believe I read it prior to purchasing the Ox actually.
I would highly recommend the Ox for anyone looking to do any sort of DI recording but it's a little too pricey for me to cart around from place to place, hence the Ironman purchase. I debated between the Ironman and Powerstation so I'll be interested to hear how it does for Hashimoto with the JCM.
The Bugera sounds great but isn't suitable for my 1959SLP. I would recommend it for lower wattage amps, definitely.
