This is a really neat piece. There are a few options that can really change the sound in a drastic and musical way.

Quality box
This was killer when it came out and it’s great quality and a great addition for the money these days, but I don’t think it’s the best on the market anymore. Well worth the money.

This is a must have
You can use this on anything to add some thickness and character. For the price you can’t beat it. It offers unique controls for parallel compression. Try a little on your vocal track and you will always use it going forward.

Warm
It’s what they advertise, it can be used with nearly everything and when driven add that saturation.

Versatile
This is a great mic to have as it has so many polar patterns and is a good quality. I’ll often leave it as a room mic in Omni but if I ever have the need for it I’ll use it, on anything. It just a great all around mic to have when you need it.

Best DAW
I’ve used them all, I was kinda forced into using logic and at first was frustrating because I wasn’t as familiar with it as others, but soon made the switch and never looked back. Apple does a great job with it and has for decades. The reason I say that I was forced into it was that I got caught in the middle of an update with a project in the early 2000’s. Of course everybody used Final Cut Pro for movie editing and there was an update to the file types, so the files that protools exported were not compatible once the Final Cut Pro editors updated. So I had to wait for Digidesign to update protools for compatibility… so yo complete the film score on time I had to buy Logic Pro which already had the update obviously because it was also an Apple product like Final Cut Pro… so of course I was frustrated but slowly realized how great Logic is and I never had a comparability issue since.

For composers
This was literally made by composers for composers. So working with it seems to just make sense and have what you need and how you need it. It has great system exclusive midi messages that closely match the intended notation.

Great acoustic guitar for recording
This particular guitar has a DSP unit attached to the pickup. The roomers are that this uses convolution. The DSP can be turned on and processes the sound to sound like it’s been recorded with perfect placement of a royer 121 and a Neumann. There is also a bled control for different amounts of each mic. The rosewood causes the guitar to have a relatively flat eq response.

Great 16 channel interface
I see a lot of conflating in these reviews. The 1620 has 16 channels in; 18 if you include the stereo mix it sends as well, with FireWire option card. It is not the same product as the 1620i. I’ve been using it on Macs since its release, and it has never had a problem. No driver needed on Mac. It has 8 xlr’s with 48v and 4 stereo TRS channels adding another 8 inputs. Each channel with XLR also has a line input with TRS. The first two channels have a hiz switch for instruments.

The missing link
This mic is the missing link. It’s very very warm. It’s great on vocals, strings, and horns. It can really change the mood.

What an image
This mic is stellar. It’s warm and paints a 3d image. If you’re looking for a mic that will shine, this is it.

Great device
This is a great device. Unison pre’s are great, but with one processor it’s not enough, but if you pair it with a satellite and it’s a great deal. Kind of a pain to have to go into the computer to change settings like you can with something like a liquid channel, but those are hard to find and this is the next best thing, for the price.

I’ve had this for years and it’s essential. It great to have any pre and compressor chain in one device without having to go into the computer and change settings. These are hard to find for a reason. I’m a big fan of convolution over modeling. Great results easy for an affordable price.
