Anyone in the USA looking for a great 80s Marshall for an inexplicably low price?

Bought a 2/3 yr old Epi Plus top push/pull pot (I'm a whore for anything Les Paul or Les Paul style) :P

EDIT: SUCK it Jim. SUCK it. :P (On the Tube Amps, Haha, jk buddy) But yeah, I have brought you up to my dad, he says your a bastard (a good thing in our family, means you have moxe), but he says your cool, however he likes my path with the blackstar for gigging to plug my shit into the amp, and bam, and I can use them. Honestly, I think they were close. My dad... who is going to be... mumble... (well over sixty this week, playing since late '50s), has played the blackstar thrice and says it does what its supposed to do, sevenfold. For the money, he would go with this over marshall, fender, whatever. I agree with him, this was my approach. I wish he had an account so I could back him up... short of getting his old ass on a video... haha. I love him tho, Bless his heart. Damn Country Music and Damn Paul McCartney B.s. Lol.

Heh, my aunt and uncle are from/live in Tallahassee FL. Sweet deal though man! If I didn't just buy a bunch of amps I would totally scoop that up.

Yeah for a JCM that price, someone is bound to grab it soon..

Best phaser pedal? Best overdrive pedal?

Okayy your right about the grunge pedal (I thought I remembered the knobs. Funny side note/somewhat related, this chick I play guitar with weekly has a pickup selector on her SG that says "Female Orgasm", haha ;P ), yeah man your freakin knowledge is extensive...its some what daunting lol. I thought I knew alot before comin on here :P

Anyways, yeah I do play with alot of lower-distortion fuzz pedals and settings when I'm going more classic rock or pearl jam-ish, whatever. I always am messing with settings to either fight feedback on my amps, and thats one reason I'm not as big on the tubes (sound from them is great, don't get me wronggg) anymore (they seem to pick up sound, was it fluorescent lights or radio frequencies.. no wait that's some guitar cables lol). I could be wrong on that last comment, so feel free to correct me (it has been a while like I said for me messing with tube amps and/or pedals). Yeah if were talkin about the same Craig Andertons (Andertons music, UK) hes pretty cool (I like Chaprs&Dorje too, alot of Americans/my friends didn't care for them but they're fantastic musicians), didn't know they made pedals and people were copying them, or whatever you meant. Thats the other thing with SOME (not all) pedals, some seemed to have a hum or some background noise that is audible.

Best phaser pedal? Best overdrive pedal?

Thanks Jim, knew you'd have good advice... actually luxiu's wasn't bad either! Usually I have no clue what Jim's talking about so I pull out my dad's move, and just nod, smile, and agree once in a while.

Haha :P

The biggest aresholes in rock

Haha that was pretty funny, yeah his voice was actually decent, when people criticize his voice, I point them to the black album ( or maybe MOP-not a favorite of mine, or And Justice).

Oh didn't know they had more stuff comin out.... eh

Best phaser pedal? Best overdrive pedal?

Sorry completely ignored Phasers... don't use em much but electro-harmonix were decent I guess.

Some of the guys on here have been talking about joyo pedals recently, they seem to think they are decent. I'm not an authority whatsover on phasers or flangers pretty much, maybe someone else can answer that one a little better, waiting for Jim to jump in here later.. Hope I helped man.

:)

Best phaser pedal? Best overdrive pedal?

Hey,

Good question, sounds like your spot on with the MXR (can't go wrong with that brand, imo) choice, thats got to be a top one. Mosfet/fulltone isn't bad either. I'm really picky when it comes to distortion pedals, which is why I try to get one or two main SS amps of which I adore the distortion (recently Blackstar, previously Line6, Crate).. most Boss pedals (another good brand) are decent I feel, the one I chose a long time ago was the Metal Zone MT-2 (the SUPER Overdrive one wasn't bad either I thought). I think I used some kinda Grunge Boss (not sure if it was Boss now) pedal and it wasn't bad. Also used Metal Core, Metal Zone (liked Zone better), mega distortion... all these were very close runners up, I practically flipped a coin between Boss Distortion and I did NOT feel cheated.

It honestly depends on what music you like and the tone your going for... maybe give Digitech (metal master I think) and Behringer a try too? The bright pink "Heavy Distortion" one was in the running also.

The biggest aresholes in rock

Hey Boom,

Yeah man St Anger was the only album I could not find at least one good song... used to be a HUGE metallica fan, started on black album and "And Justice for All" in hs, awesome guitar work there... now its more than faded. I do feel bad though Metallica is one of those bands that has been through some stuff, theyre still alrightt I guess. Props to them for trying to stay relevant with St Anger... and whatever the other one was after that/recently... Metallica Magnetic or something.

:P

Where are your income taxes going?

Hey Boom, nice to meet ya.

That sucks I just had to pay my dad back for an amp and guitar, he fronted me the cash. You going with that Atilla one or the Carvin bass? My first guitar teacher was a bassist and would only use Carvin Guitars/basses..

Also lol at Jim's comment...

Wait can you actually lose Gear IQ points on here??

The biggest aresholes in rock

Yeah man, I'm really trying to break into it, Im pretty good with all the conniving b.s.. bad to admit that but I'm built for that. But I can't blame metallica for joining the suit against Napster, but with how relentlessly they bullied Jason, and the AiC thing, idk. I used to really like metallica but they suck worse the more famous they get (music wise thats true too). I really dislike Lars but I nearly outright hate Hetfield, no offense if your a fan, bud. Again they write cool metal riffs... that's about all they do for me. Lars can barely play drums imo.

:P

I know its really freakin easy to pirate movies, music, band merch. I mean we talked about the china/taiwan guitars I think when I joined, but people will make exact copies of Fender and Gibson, except some dude did them to make some side cash and slapped the Gib/Fndr logo on the headstock. Some are good to play but its kinda just the point..

Yeah, cutthroat industry for sure.

My pedalboard looks empty

Oh ok I understand. Yeah our stores are crap, Guitar Center, Walmart(kill me pls).. but we make the best stuff (Fender Gibson pedals idk everything), you are mostly correct, unfortunately. I think I may have heard of joyo but never saw one until i googled it after you mentioned.

Brother, we started the whole getting too much Chinese crap, its ridiculous. I bought a cheap chinese PRS copy, but looks and plays great (I've said this in another thread so I won't elaborate). Bottom line, is their stuff has gotten better since the 70s, or so I have heard. I wont buy much stuff from China usually but lately I don't mind, really.

Gearhead since before I played guitar.. learned how to tweak amp/pedal knobs at age 3 or 4, dad would play guitar and I'd just mess with it. But thanks for your response, let me know if you ever get to Andertons and what you think or whatever sir.

Oh really? Under your own name or with a band? Never been to white plains myself.

My pedalboard looks empty

UGH DUDE... I came across Andertons, Chapman guitars and freakin Rob Chapman recently and I'm in love with his videos haha. Im jealous as hell tho how is Andertons? You have probably met the owner there of Anderton if you've been (ik the UK is bigger than us yanks think) but have you met that Rob Chapman fellow? We have Guitar center here but its GARBAGE, freakin kids come in and blare Smoke on the Water, Iron Man, and AC/DC... sheesh. The employees also..

Yeah for all that stuff I just use like 2 line 6 x2 of them or 1 of my dads vintage fender tube combo amps to practice in my bedroom. Full stack marshall w/ AVT150 "tube state" ( please don't hate on it.. :/ )in my basement, having it converted into a makeshift recording studio/jam room. And join the club on the rambling (doing so right nowww) and searching reviews, asking people, etc. regarding which $50 or $100 pedal to buy... I think its a guitarist /musician thing haha.

Eq I never had a problem with I duno, I have a good ear too but I am pleased with most marshall equip, Mesa, 5150s, and I've heard some decent Krank(??) and Custom stuff is great too but I'm broke, Line 6 is awesome cuz I grew up on CRATE but haven't seen them in a while, not the ones I grew up with at least haha. Like I said trying a Blackstar, arrives tomorrow, as per Chappers advice.. Anything SS. Like, I'll do tube if I'm stickin to classic rock and oldies, but I'm just a LOUD, SS full stack with the distortion and compression cranked uncomfortablly high, no effects usually. Well with that actually some Chorus and a sprinkle of delay.

Joyo? Jeez I'm really feeling like an amateur on here now..

Quick addition, when I thought about it, I was looking for Bea (Dorje guitarist) equipment, and thats how I found EquipBoard. Google Search.

:)

Where are your income taxes going?

Nah I'm from New York... it doesn't go over well here at all, I started realizing this site was mostly Brits, which is great. I get along better with UK guys and gals than most New Yorkers haha. But thanks for the intro I will check out Jims thing in a few mins, wondering what that about. I will try to find that thread, some parts of the site confuse me but for the most part it is very straight forward and more user friendly I feel than say facebook. Appear overly pissed? So I seemed a little pissed? haha nah not at all, I'm good.

As for the asterisks I realized last night after I did that that it either slanted my word or emboldened it. Also, I'll try to be accurate with submissions, and not repeat my self/duplicate posts, etc. Again, not a big forum person, so I'm learning as I go I suppose.

I've been really into Maiden since maybe age 12, my fave is Dave Murray, Adrian is great too.. but Bruce is in incredible man, same with Harris, they all are! I LOVE Brave New World, I own most their albums and the ones I didn't own I downloaded my fave songs... which are Powerslave (was my username on everything), the into to Benjamin Breeg, Speed of Light is awesome and the video is even more awesome, plus 2 mins,Prowler, and the trooper being maybe 3rd-5th placing.. oh Fear too, yeah big time. Not much that I can fully just not stand by them! Starblind is cool. The mercenary, dream of mirrors, Out of the Silent Planet and Ghost of the Navigator are all super crazy awesome songs also, haha. Chorus isn't bad on Blood Bros, its a little bit pop-ish for a Maiden song chorus, but yeah. And I am a Christian but I love Sign of the Cross and Number of the Beast, eh sue me.

Chris Cornell's brother...? Like Soundgarden Cris Cornell? More of an AiC or Pearljam guy myself. What did he do if you don't mind me asking, to get kicked out or what have you...

...cuz I'm gonna DO IT! Haha I'm obvs joking, I really enjoy this site and will try hard not to get kicked out. :P

Also your right, hoping Blackstar will take a pedal or two better than the Line 6 amp combos/heads..

10yover 10 years ago

My pedalboard looks empty

Absolutely not, nothing wrong with that at all! I know a few of those models you named, but not a huge pedal knowledge base for me, if I am being honest here. I know all the effects obviously. I use alot of delay and distortion w/ compression, and occasionally I will use a little flange, volume pedal very rarely, and sometimes a little bit octave. Oh the wah is great too but I've gotten away from that style largely. I wish I could get a pedal board honestly, probably would improve my versatility, I would think. I may get a pedal or two here in the near future, but my guitar-purchasing addiction is beginning to spiral out of control haha. Btw SOAD is a really unique, cool band. I love their attitude and creative guitar parts as well as their intelligent lyrics. I used to be really into them in high school.

I usually play in Standard E, again, after having been really into C and C# in college, and even more so ability to mess with the more basic drop D.

But ah so it was like custom done or something? I'm not familiar with the website/company name.. sorry, again, fairly amateur knowledge regarding some pedals, and NO knowledge whatsoever of the actual boards.

10yover 10 years ago

My pedalboard looks empty

Some of those older pedals are pretty cool, and hold their value. I'm thinking especially dunlops like the wah from the 70s (i think), some boss are good from the 80s, stuff like that. I also like MXR alot, and digitech and Korg make a few decent things. I'm about to get alot of flak on this, but I have never actually had a pedal board. I have one or two that I use occasionally. I've got 2 Line6 SS W/ built in effects, a marshall 150w head with three or four channel footswich that came with it, and built in effects. And I just bought a cheap Blackstar through Musicians friend, just to try it out, effects plus pedal. Don't get me wrong, I've tried a few pedals I really like and every other guitarist I know uses boards, so I am the odd man out. Haha

I get that you can probably squeeze more sound/different tones and such out of the pedals. Did you make your own pedal board or did you buy one already put together somewhere?

Where are your income taxes going?

Just curious also as to whether you had any other tips about our site here, EquipBOARD? Any other rules I mean besides going crazy on here swearing or some nonsense? Also, I messed up ONE submision, and I cannot delete them? I know this may be the wrong thread here, but you've been here a year and I figured I'd post and ask you, Jim, anyone who wants to answer/comment..

Thanks again! Good to meet ya bro! Keep rockin ;)

Where are your income taxes going?

Oh, hey there. That's cool yeah, Jim seems knowledgeable, and I wasn't offended by anything he says, sometimes I come off as overly apologetic, mostly to avoid confrontations. That's cool though I subscribed to your page a night or two ago. As far as the database/knowledge issue, I haven't toured but I have gigged and have some studio knowledge (more minor than Jim's or the moderators you mentioned, Im sure) with a wide knowledge about most amps and guitars, nothing too far out of that range though. I grew up with a multi-instrument musician for a father and he redoes guitars and amps or whatever, and has gigged/toured, all that junk and he's alot older than jim, me or you, so if you hear something I say that seems like I'm lying out of my butt or just coming up with it out of thin air, it's probably my dad, or my ex guitarist who is in school to become a luthier. So yeah, don't count me out jus cuz Im a little older or younger, or some B.S. I tried to get him to come on here but the most he will do is watch youtube or whatever.

Anyways, I will TRY not to use any symbols and stuff, however I am wicked accustomed to doing so with txting and the like, so sorry bro bear with me. Big maiden fan, also. But I honestly don't even remember what I typed if something showed up weird? (What does typeface/lexicon even mean, smiley faces Im guessing??)

Also sorry, not a big forum guy usually, just giving this a try, and as you guessed I've been on here for about 8 or 9 days now. Thanks for the helpful tip and the welcome though! Good man!

PS- I just reread your comment, did I say something offensive/ or appear offended by something Jim said? if so Im not mad nor was I upset at all. I havent been a teenager for several years, but my dickish attitude has not gone away yet haha.

10yover 10 years ago

Where are your income taxes going?

Oh okay your only about 8 or 9 years older than me. I'm born and raised in Syracuse, New York, pretty much dead center of New York state... not far from Syracuse University.. yanno, Jim Boeheim, Carmelo Anthony? Lol. But thats awesome congrats on your lil punk rocker. I listen to alot of metal (Ozzy, CoB, Maiden, AiC, GnR) and punk(NoFX,Pistols,Rancid, even Sum41/blink) mostly , but I'm pretty versatile. Yessir, I took sound engineering/recording at a community college, but I'm more of a player and a tweaker (minor tweaks only)... been in several bands mostly Classic Rock or Hardcore and metal bands. Whats "dealing AP AR" mean by the way? Nice dude, I took Anatomy and biology trying to break into healthcare, didn't work 4 me. I really hate normal jobs like to the point that I don't care... tryin to get ex-guitarist to open a equip shop with me... I dunno. As for the girlfriend/wife thing, I'm not even gonna crack that egg dude.. I'd be on here all day..

But yeah greetings from New York, your alright, I wish you and your young one well, my friend! What kinda music you like, I get your into punk a bit as well, an I've seen you talk about Lou Reed, couple other oldies guys..?

The biggest aresholes in rock

The worst offenders? Gotta go with: Johnny Rotten & Sid Vicious tied with Axl Rose (come on....), then Vince Neil, Sebastian Bach, Steve Tyler, Dee Snider, Phil Anselmo (racist), Marilyn Manson (watch this...he kicks John5 on stage then tells him to pick up his guitar and keep playing, Lol) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4MBSoId6_I (Sidenote- I cant stand MM), and James Hetfield/ Lars Ulrich (for the napster thing but mostly for mocking AiC). I feel like I want to say Noel Gallagher and Cobain too. Who am I missing...

10yover 10 years ago

Where are your income taxes going?

Yeah I'm guessing your a little older than me by the back and forths we've been having- no offense meant at all. You seem cool and your reviews (as well as your comments even) seem well thought out, not wordy or condescending, but still very knowledgeable. I'm about halfway through my twenties, lost a really good job at the post office at the end of last year (GREAT pay for my age group but I hated it, badly), haven't been working since, yet. I am tight fisted about many things, Guitars and cigs are not in that group haha. Yeah my best bro just had a kid with his girl, it really tightens the reigns so to speak on your purse-strings I guess (wouldn't know otherwise). I have three or four playable guitars currently, you know what they are so I won't list them, def getting a LP Epi I think, found one with push-pull pots on CL. I moved back at my dads place, he has at least 5 playable electrics, an acoustic, a bass, several keyboards, amps (a few tube, a few SS, no Tube/state like me,he's smart), probably other stuff too I don't know about.. he's a little bit country, and I'm more Rock n' Roll (heh, Metal mostly). But yeah, I use each guitar at least an hour a day. I play for between 4-5 hours a day sometimes more though with the increase in free time (trying to get better for a jam band). Don't even get me started on Liquor, Cigarettes though... lol, "supposedly". ;)

No tattoos here either! It would be my first, honestly. I wanted "1313" across my left knuckles... Might as well get "forget" a job on my neck, huh? Haha :P

10yover 10 years ago

Where are your income taxes going?

NO a man can never have too many guitars. EVER.

Mine is either going toward a tattoo or more likely a RR style Jackson. Or maybe an Epiphone I dunno.
