Best Tom Mic Under $300
I purchased these a week ago and I can't believe that anyone would buy anything else. The mics are most metal with some plastic parts but overall it feels sturdy. Because this mic is a condenser it captures everything from 60-20k in stunning clarity. The gooseneck and mounting clip included make placement extremely easy. The mics take well to EQ but to be completely honest I've have had a reason to actually use EQ other than to test them. For my toms these are perfect.

This plugin is a verified time saver. Set it up on the track and let it automate volume for you. Works great on all track, not just vocals.

The best plugins at the best price.
Slate digital is the the home recoding studios best friend. For $14.99 a month you have every plugin you will ever need. There is a large selection of preamps, EQs, and compressors to choose from. Each one is an emulation of classic or vintage studio gear or a unique plugin of their own design. The bundle includes not only the plugins they have already released but any plugins they will release. My favorite feature is the FGx, which is a mastering plugin that truly makes mastering easy. The most feature is the Virtual Mix Rack (VMR). It allows several plugins to run in 1 instance lessening the load on your computer.

The Best $14.99 I Have Ever Spent
This Slate VMR/ Everything Bundle is the only thing I trust to make my mixes. All of the plugins sound great and give the hobbyist the same gear as the grammy winner for a nice low monthly fee. Even the pre-sets sound amazing and are a good place to start your mix.

Best surprise
I bought these mics 3 for $50.00 from Guitar Center just for the price not expecting much. One day I decided to try them on toms and the sound was amazing. They are what the SM57 is but a 5th of the cost (I know no one will believe it but its true). After realizing how great these sound I tried them on snare top/ bottom and guitar cabs and they still sound great.

Great controler
Most of my original music is midi instruments supported by live drums. This does the job for me the only downside is it doesn't work with Logic Pro X.

These are my main drum overheads. They capture the sound of my kit no mater the genre or dynamics.

Good buy
These mics are good for singer songwriters and other light genres of music. The 550 for vocals and the 551 on the guitar. I have also used this combo on guitar amps and piano. The key to using these is to not place it to close to the source or put to much gain on it.

Go to for vocalists
This mic is sounds great for any singing. It wont make you sound amazing but will give you a clear tone that you can work with. The 10db pad and low freq roll off are great features for a middle of the road microphone.

First LDC
The best starting mic you can buy and it comes with a hard plastic case. Sounds decent on everything but with a little processing can sound amazing. Used to use it as a vocal mic, it is now my kick out mic. I don't see myself replacing it anytime soon.

I quite agree with your thought. And I use too in front of my reso head to catch the "woof". Good results also as oh couple.

Get if you are recording drums on a budget
I bought one of these 5 years ago and loved it so much I bought another. It has 8 mic inputs, 6 line inputs, 2 Spdif inputs, 4 outs, and a headphone jack. If you are looking to record drums get this and never be disappointed.

Pretty Boom
If you want a big sound that looks good get these. Extremely easy to tune and has it's own dampening with 2 plys with oil in the middle.

This kit is unique for the fact its made out of Alder wood. Sounded great out of the box.

HCS and Custom Classics
As a drummer who doesn't like to be held to one genre of music I have many different cymbals. The HCS while low cost and a bit harsh sounding absolutely fit the bill for punk music and are regularly on my kit. With a little eq they sound great on stage and in studio (especially in the room mics). The Classics Custom are my main cymbals. The sound great for metal, hip hop, jazz fusion, really anything you wan to play and look great. If a classy loudness is want you need Classic Custom cymbals provide.

All I need
The Kemper Profiling Amp is the only piece of equipment any studio needs. It accurately captures the tone of any amp/ cab any guitarist can want. I have had many a guitarist come to my home studio and swear by the tone of their amp just to be blown away by the Kemper (its the tone you end up hearing on the record). Don't spend good money on one amp when you can have any amp you want with the Kemper.

My go to for screaming vocals, spoken word, rap, and podcasts.
If you want clear and concise vocals this mic is all you need. Metal vocalists or anybody mixing metal vocals need this mic. It will capture growls and squeals. The late great Mitch Lucker used this mic and will make your vocals pop out of the musical ether that is metal. If metal isn't your thing its great on any vocal performance, capturing the voice clear with all its perfection or imperfection. A lot of people think that its low gain makes it hard to use but if you are mixing, this mic will give you all the headroom needed to make mixing easy.

Fist mic I bought
First let me say I love this microphone. It captures the sound of whatever I have put it on, (snare top/ bottom, toms, guitar/ bass amp). When placed correctly and with a little eq you will have a sound you can be proud of. I bought several when I fist started recording and have never been tempted to buy a mic to replace these, SM57 or otherwise. If you have to buy an instrument mic buy these.
