I love it

this is my first hardware synth so an objective review is not possible.

works great for me

Basically a software MPC, I map it to my SP-606 and have tons of fun chopping and layering.

works in wine as well.

mrthraz

love this little thing.

touch sensitive platers, tons of buttons and a fader. class compliant midi over usb so no need for a driver. works great with Mixxx.

good to have.

when you have as much desktop gear as I have, you want to preserve desktop space. that what this thing does in spades.

its a qwerty keyboard but remove the palm rest and you've got a 32-key keyboard. only Europeans have win 7 drivers for it but its easy to download the Linux drivers to install if you're on 'nix.

I love them and just can't wait to buy another one, dog just killed second one I’ve owned for 3 years, the one before that I owned for 5.

What I learned to produce on.

People dis' this DAW and I don't see why, sporting the best piano roll, Hands down. Making music on FL is easy and enjoyable. when I left windows for Linux this was the one app I knew I would miss.

surprise surprise... works in wine.

Version: Image Line FL Studio 12

beat matching savior

This App brakes the DJ application paradigm by leaving decks behind. Those coming from DAW's wanting to DJ should feel right at home.

I installed this app in wine after I left window cause I love it so much.

Linux OS built for Media Creation

this OS comes with a configured Real time kernel tons of free audio software and a modern UI.

add the KXstudio repos to add even more audio maximizing tweaks to your system. no more virus worries, run windows plugs in wine, (FL studio runs like butter)your good to go.

Sonic weapon for the music-ninja

Shuriken is an open source beat slicer which harnesses the power of aubio's onset detection algorithms and Rubber Band's time stretching capabilities. A simple Qt4 interface makes it easy to slice up drum loops or phrase samples, assign individual drum hits or chops to MIDI keys, and change the tempo of loops in real-time. A must have if you wanna use hydrogen to lay sample chops, you gotta have it.

the only synth you'll ever need.

the only synth you'll ever need. the u.i. is unimpressive but one look at the sound shaping capacity and you'll love this app.

mrthraz

cheap but good

I ripped 7 off it as soon as I got it home. put ubuntustudio on it with the KXstudio repos. just rock solid. it's been rock solid for years.

freedom is best

basically this is a pro-tools clone that's free. just a great daw at an even better price. free!! works with any interface that works with ALSA.

Gotta have it

as a Linux hip-hop produce, this app is indispensable. supposedly just for drums but I use mine like a software MPC 3000. Midi'd to my SP-606, I lay sample chops on top of drums and pitch notes for bass: this thing is great.

allows pitching of individual samples (16 levels.), A great sequencer, a song editor, a mixer with ladspa efx's, mute groups, and time stretching.

who said you can't do hip-hop in Linux?

Freeeeeeeee!!!

this is crazy, just nuts that you can have this much DJ app for freeeeeee!!!

quad mixing decks, midi controller love, hid support, and virtual vinyl.

just too much win here

mrthraz

super sensitive

Linux compatible, small, sensitive and configurable. the pads feel great on your fingers, perfect laptop drum/chop pad.

Lots of control

Built for Mixmeister's DJ Software. this box can do so much more. class compliant midi with led feedback. find a case if travelling with it though, the knobs on the top left don’t like bags

A toy Turned into a Tool

mostly useless on Windows but on OS X and Linux this is a 32 button, 2 jog wheel, 1 xy joy stick and 1 fader midi controller with led feedback. very plastic but also very cheap. I have three, 2 I use for Mixxx one for back up.

mrthraz

better than i thought.

this little condenser is class compliant. has three modes. and has never let me down. great mic at a great price.

UnderRated for sampling

Phono or line-level output as well as USB. class complaint, also has a 1/4" jack input for other gear.

no pitch control, belt driven, very cheap.

Ion envisioned this TT as a conversion device for people wanting rip their vinyl collection to digital formats.

what we got was an extremely cheap and easy way to get vinyl into your sampler or daw.

grit to love

very underrated unit.

fx's from heaven. small form factor but very good pitching on it. 8 voice poly which is standard for the samplers in this series. no mute groups cripples it. rca in. vinyl sim and lofi fx's are to kill for. lcd display: good to have on an sp but why so small?.?.

this is basically an SP-303 on steroids, in much the same way the SP-808 was an SP-202 on steroids.

to understand the attraction to the Roland/Boss SP-Sampler series you have to know what an SP is: just enough midi/sequencing to get by as a sequencer, just enough audio routing to be a sampler.. but an effects engine beast. consequently where SP's fail you as a sampler you have to make up for those failing with the effects. it forces a lot of creativity out of you.

mrthraz

good sampler to have if paired with computer (laptop)

cons: 8 note poly, only 4 tracks, small lcd, no 16 level pitch, can't resample patterns, weak time stretch.

pros: Linux compatible. audio/midi interface. can be used as a midi controller, EFX from the gods!! has mute groups. (the only SP that does.)

almost all of its weakness have a workaround involving the efx's: you can't resample patterns but you can resample the delay buffer, if the wet and the echo are all the way up you can get a whole bar in there.

if I want 16 levels, I can resample a button pressed 16 times while changing the pitch effect with a knob before auto-chopping across the pad bank. add to that: this thing is an audio interface, i.e. sampling directly from youtube.

windows 7 requires a hack to get working that can be found at the sp forums. more than worth the $250 i spent on it.
