Lush!
This is a brilliant product both as a standalone and as a great introduction into modular synthesis (eurorack specifically), the only downside is there is no overdrive a la minimoog/voyager and when increasing the resonance the overall volume is decreased. The assign output on the patch bay has numerous capability as it can be a number of things programmed in different ways such as a noise/random generator, also the step sequencer on this is incredible and even at the price it is it is still a bargain when you think of how much it would cost to buy this as individual modules.

modern condensers w/o internal pads piss me off, I can pad down my mic pre, but if a hot source is clipping the internal electronics of the mic I am screwed and have to reach for a more fully featured condenser that may have a different voice or may be more valuable so I am wary of damaging the diaphragm by pointing it on axis at a raging SVT or something... unless a new mic costs less than $500 no pad's a deal breaker... the HPF is kidna silly if you have a console or some decent preamps

Agreed but the only other microphone i currently have is a Rode Procaster because i cant afford an ElectroVoice RE-20 but man that thing needs some serious gain (id bought it for voice overs and didnt really want to have to shout into it)

Good basic Keyboard
This keyboard is just that a keyboard it has eight faders, knobs and pads, on my model the pads werent great and to be honest i wasnt a big fan of the knobs as they are endless encoders, which is not my thing. however the semi weighted keyboard feels great which i would argue is the most important part.

Push-ing ableton to the limit
If your an ableton user this is definitely a great buy, not a must have, but definitely something that speeds up workflow tremendously and the in key mode allows you to play notes anywhere on the push without ever hitting a wrong note, this also feels a lot more intuitive that using the scale plugin and a keyboard. There are numerous videos on the web showing people making tracks just with the push without ever having to look up and i can honestly say this is definitely possible as a bit of an ableton novice this really opened up ableton up.

BRilliant for some quick affordable compression
This product is brilliant, there are numerous websites telling you how you can basically change this into a dbx compressor with some higher quality parts with a bit of DIY however these websites also tell you that after a certain point in the production of these they did this change for you, which is what i have, it is assumed that this is what daft punk did to their model where it got its frame, simple and easy to use.

you are correct that in the last decade alesis revamped the 3630 a bit to be more inline with how we all modded them a decade prior (all I did to mine was to snip the gate circuits to be happy with the sound quality)... I believe the new ones addressed the tone suck from the gate detector more elegantly though, LOL

Perfect Companion to the Apollo for a small studio or as a way into UAD Plugins!
The boost This provide my apollo on the DSP front i have found priceless, granted you could just bounce any files and print the effects "to tape" its definitely useful and allows for more extensive experimentation on the fly.

Hey, I kind of know that Satellite is for storing plugins but is it handy for data backup too? What does this basically do and who do people mainly use it for?

Hi sorry for the late reply this isnt like a hard drive it doesnt store your plugins those are still stored on your computer, this basically runs the plugins instead of your CPU having to run them. People use it because UAD replicate analog hardware which has a certain sound to it (which i didnt believe until i bought one of these to try it out). Also you cant back any data up to it, its basically an external CPU which runs the UAD plugins, but at the same time it acts as a key allowing you to run UAD plugins (so you can use UAD plugins without UAD external DSP) I hope this helps

Brilliant
I bought this product as part of an offer with a free satellite quad, quite frankly the preamps are incredible the unison technology gets used every single day being able to have quality vintage preamps for a fraction of the price (especially when bought during one of UADs countless yearly sales) when not using the unison technology the preamps are crystal clear and this is running on a windows machine so no worries there either.
