I use the Novation Launchkey 49 to make my melodies and drops. Great way to play the piano and a great way to produce music!
When I go to parties to mix my songs, this little gadget comes in handy. I am familiar with most turntables though. I highly recommend this to someone who has mastered the iPad DJAY app first.
I use ableton to make my music and mashups. A great piece of software in my opinion although I used to not say that until I learned how to use it better. I would recomend it to someone looking for good workflow although, not as great for a beginner.
