Great little kit put together from stray ebay drums. Total cost around $600. Play and sound like 4x the cost. Why eat caviar when McD's makes a perfectly good fish sandwich?
Paiste Sound Edge hats were the first to offer the scalloped edge that releases the trapped air that causes that "cup" sound. Been playing this set for 40 years! Hundreds of gigs and they still sound awesome!
Another ebay find. Initial cost under $200. A little polish, new 42 strand Gibraltar snares, Aquarian heads and you have a snare that sounds like it cost 4x as much. I'm a fan of the old '90s Mapex drums...Well built and very affordable!
Best heads i've ever played! Great sound and the coating wears like iron. I use Super2 coated on the toms, SuperKick2 on the bass batter (SuperKick1 coated on the front) and Texturecoated on the snare.
Aquarians cost a bit more but they make up for it in tone and performance.
I did a lot of research before buying this pedal. I wanted something light, uncomplicated and relatively inexpensive that put the beaters equidistant from the center of the head. This pedal fit all of those requirements. It has just the right amount of adjustment to be easily adapted to different playing styles. Great action too!
If you wanted to go nuts, you could add custom beaters. Works really well right out of the box though.
Update; I recently added Vic Firth VICKICK wood shaft beaters https://vicfirth.com/products/vickicktm-beater-wood-shaft. I really like the feel of these and they have great punch. I have to admit that i got the idea from "rdavidr" on Youtube.
When you want a premium kit made in USA, it's hard to beat (no pun intended) Ludwigs. The standard for drums for 100 years, Played by Ringo, Buddy Rich and just about everyone else at one time or another. Flawlessly constructed and beautifully finished. Wonderful customer service (they built the matching 10" tom for me in a matter of a few weeks).
This 2012 kit consists of; 16x20" Bass, 8x10, 8x12 rack toms and 14x16 floor tom in Sable Black Lacquer. Rack toms have the new Ludwig A.T.L.A.S. suspension mounts....If you buy Ludwigs, get them, they work!
The Ludwig Supraphonic is probably the most recorded drum in rock. Other manufacturers have scrambled to copy it...but it's still the industry standard for the URS (Universal Rock Snare).
I never have to wonder where my hands are in the stick! Also, the most well balanced sticks i've ever played. I'm using Hickory Groove "B Bops" (about a 5B size) and "MiniBops" (about a 7A size) with custom nylon tips.
