What pedal set do you think they own?
... right now my son has my candy apple red j-bass, he's way into it... he's also got my jimwatt amp modded so the normal channel has exra low and a 2x12 with fanes... yes I gave my 13 year-old a punchy 50 watt tube rig, it sounds hella good even at low volume...
I can't even imagine having access to real gear at age 13. That's so awesome. Who is your son listening to, bass-wise?
I designed a really clever ken fisher type I waster volume for it on a dual ganged pot that also vries the global negative feedback with a soecial emphasis on fizzy tones using a well placed 100pf cap, the presence circuit resides in the last preamp section, tone control recovery and fixed bias phase inverter bias supply/buffer, its a weirdy but it works great...
Sounds delicious... audio demos?
if I decide to part with an SG I'll let you know
Thank you. At this point, if I ever do acquire and SG, I feel like you'd have to play it and give the thumbs up before I'd even put the money down.
"Yeah... a guy named Jim is going to show up at your place tomorrow with a portable workbench, some tools and an amp he built himself... if Jim gives your SG Standard the thumbs up, I'll accept your counter offer. Oh... Jim is going to need to play-test at midsize-venue volume, please warn your neighbors..."
...I'm thinking of purging again.
I need to do the same. All I do is bass in 2026, it seems. I haven't powered up a real synth since last year. I hate having old electronics sitting without regular use. It's immoral.

Gear Photo Pages just got a major upgrade
"Value by Category" would take up about the same amount of room, but that's just one person's opinion. It would be cool to see if anyone else has thoughts. Thanks!

Gear Photo Pages just got a major upgrade
Does anyone else think it's strange that the main breakdown is called "Spend by Category"?
It's like Equipboard's version of a Zestimate... but, like a Zestimate, it's the current estimated value, not what that person actually spent.
Any of us that have studio monitors that are 5+ years old, we spent a lot more on those than they're probably worth now, and any of us that have vintage items we've held for a long time probably spent way less than the current value.

Very nice. 😎
My favorite adds so far:
- Endless scroll browsing for the main photos page. SO MUCH better.
- Boldest pick is amazing.

What pedal set do you think they own?
If I ever part wth one of my SGs (unlikely) I'll sell it to you for the price I paid, which was low-to-fair at the time... even adjusting for inflation they're pretty affordable USA gibsons carefully selected for balance and unplugged sustain. I just don't think I can ever let them go, its so hard to find a winning SG, so many clunkers.
You're a prince, Jim. Thank you -- but even if your son doesn't play guitar now, there's a good chance he'd one day be a bit bent to hear you sold off any of your well-vetted pick-of-litter SGs.

regarding redmonkey: advertising in submissions.
yeah, but youre misrepresenting my point. perfectly find with the brand, but asking for an expert's opinion on my issue.
Glad to hear you're onboard with the big picture -- just making sure. Good catch re: the ad-like copy in the submission.

regarding redmonkey: advertising in submissions.
Ah, I feel what you're getting at with the marketing copy in the posting notes. That specific detail is kinda outside the bounds of what the community normally puts into a post. In my professional experience, marketing people are gonna market... the good ones can't be stopped... they're as passionate about marketing copy as you and I are about bass strings. It's wild.
That said, having been here awhile, you gotta trust me that having the actual brands here helping to log submissions is a good thing. There are a few pedal companies on EB that help log artist usage of their products too, and it's kinda great, honestly. I mean, their posts are always really thorough and clear and on-point. They're adding ultra-accurate/quality info to the database. Don't chase 'em away dude, please! They do good work. lol.
Big picture, are you ok with the people who make these products helping to log submissions?

What pedal set do you think they own?
I just wasn't going to assume that was all that was there or the only fx they ever use, but I wasn't paying that much attention to what I was saying/typing. Disregard if you want.
Disregard? Never, lol.
I haven't owned a 6-string guitar since 1998. Any opinions I have on 6-string matters are just placeholder until you or another expert arrives on the scene.
I have a special fascination with doom/stoner rock -- Remember when I was a breath away from getting an SG and an FZ-2 back in 2024? That threat still feels real, Jim... I wake up in a cold sweat thinking about finding an underpriced SG on Craigslist with a ratty body and an expertly-repaired headstock snap that plays like butter.

What pedal set do you think they own?
there might be a fuzz involved, not sure... fuzzpedals are very personal, they're so quirky that no 2 people sound the same with them unless its one with diodes for clipping or octave like a muff or superfuzz
Interesting. Why wouldn't they put the fuzz pedal in their pedalboard if they were using one?

What pedal set do you think they own?
welp, that looks like an orange th30, the small size of the model name and knob layout are the tip off
Thanks Jim. I came to same conclusion. I linked to a TH30 being demoed in a stoner rock context in my info dump reply.
I know the OP was hoping we could point him to a pedal or two to capture that tone, but in the example he asked for, seems like high-gain channel on an Orange tube amp is the answer.
EDIT: if one's Crybaby is white, as in the Burning Planet video, it's likely the 105Q model, right?

Mods currently have no reasonable way to find Add Artist requests that any of us sent in (I can't even find my own requests). There's a backlog of thousands and the ordering of the names is randomized each time you view the list and paginated across 23 individual pages and counting.
Until the technical situation is resolved behind the scenes, we're all going to have to make do with the artists we're allowed to add ourselves via musicbrainz.
Given I can't find any of Louis Cato's projects on musicbrainz, I'd recommend sticking with The Tonight Show Band for now.
Thanks for you patience. Sorry I don't have a better answer.

What pedal set do you think they own?
The reason for my curiosity? What do you think it might be? I liked the guitar tone. I want to play something in the same tone.
We get all types of obsessives here. I've learned not to make any assumptions.
If it doesn't bother you, I'd prefer the band Lord Vapour. Will you help me?
Lord Vapour's guitarist was Henry Fears, now of the band Waxx.
This is a community that responds well to visuals. Here are some photos and precise links to get everyone started/interested in the hunt.
On first pass, it seems Henry's fuzz isn't from a pedal, but from Orange amp heads -- a popular choice among stoner/doomer guitarists.
The 3 consistent elements in his pedal board are a Crybaby Wah (looks like a white Q105 in the video), an MXR Phase 90, and a Boss tuner -- no fuzz/OD/distortion pedal that I can see (video linked at the bottom of this post is cued up to a pretty clear zoom-in on his live pedal board). Regardless of venue, he's got some kind of Orange amp head going into some kind of 4x12 cabinet. Both that custom looking whitewashed guitar in the video and the Gibson SG he is sometimes seen with have some kind of humbucker in the bridge (as you'd expect).
Update: jimmarchi1 think's that's an Orange TH30 head in the video, on a straight (non-angled) Marshall 4x12 cabinet. I see the same. That Orange valve amp is likely the heart of this player's tone with Lord Vapour.
Just because he's using a certain setup in a music video, doesn't mean that's what you're actually hearing on the record, of course, but in this case I suspect it's at least close.
@jimmarchi1, feel free to chime in if your ears have some thoughts.

What pedal set do you think they own?
Are you a guitarist? A producer looking for a plugin recipe to spice up a guitar track? Why the curiosity?
I'd recommend picking one group, and one guitarist in that group. Asking for both guitarists in both groups is too much for one thread.

What pedal set do you think they own?
So you're more interested in what's generally common between these two different (but similar) guitar tones, rather than looking for info on exactly what amps, speakers, pedals, guitars, strings and tunings were used in each?
Also, both bands have two guitarists. Are you interested more in the lead tone or the rhythm tone?
Edit: correction: Lord Vapour only had one guitarist at the time of that video, not 2 -- the track just contain multi-tracked rhythm and lead parts, thus my confusion.

Hello and welcome.
Neither of your links work and you didn't mention the bands by name, so you'll have to make some fixes and add some identifying info before anyone can assist.

Specific keyboard stand situation…
Thanks for the nudge, @jimmarchi1.
I actually wrote a reply to @iplaykeyboard's post the day it dropped, but the site was having forum technical issues that day, and my post wouldn't err... "post"... so here we go:
As for my personal experience, I got burned by wobbly keyboard stands in college and quickly switched to the nuclear option of that era, which I am eternally happy with and will surely outlive me. It folds to fit in a bag, but I wouldn't want to have to carry that bag very far -- MFer is beyond heavy.
I do have too many keyboards, but i'm never using more than 2 at once. i put the ones I'm not using in storage. So my workspace is typically just a keyboard on the Z-stand to my left and keyboard on worktable or on chest of drawers to my right. I don't go for the keyboard-showroom in my home thing -- too distracting.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with a stand that couldn't support a fully-weighted hammer-action 88 key digital piano (on it's lowest level, at least), even though I don't play a weighted 88 key board right now... you just never know. If at all possible, over-buy in terms of how much weight the stand can take.
OK, so 3 questions:
- How heavy is "too heavy" in terms of your protability needs right now?
- I'm assuming you'd have the Yamaha 61 on the bottom rung and the lighter/smaller Hydrasynth above as your "upper manual" for basses, leads and the occasional chordal pad?
- When you're playing seated, are you ok having your arms elevated for long stretches to reach up to the keyboard on top? This would be my main concern in using the same stand for both seated and standing performance. There are (obviously) different ergonomic needs in both cases.
The artist that came to mind when you first asked this quesiton was Domi.
Domi typically perform seated, and has different pairings of various upper synth and lower EP keyboards in nearly every context -- yet they rarely use a conventionaly 2-tier keyboard stand. Domi instead opts for:
or
or
But to Jim's point, I personally go for the approach he's leaning towards at the end of his reply: with 2 keyboards, I keep them both at the same level/height and arrange them side-by-side, in an wide "L", or just one on each side of me. Elevating my arms dramatically to perform on one, then lowering them back down to perform on the other just always feels unnatural to me. People do it, but it's just never been my thing.

the mysterious (and unique) Regvlvs Raphael guitar
Welcome aboard.
You sound like someone that could probably assemble a nice coffee table book on the Regvlvs Raphael -- you'll fit right in here. Good to have ya.
One of my fellow moderators, @hashimoto, created one of the two entries you linked in your first post. I suspect they'll swing by the thread at some point. Maybe they, or one of the many other fellow-obsessives here, will have some fresh leads.
In the meantime, tell us a bit about yourself and how you ended up going so deep on this guitar. I’m also based out of Los Angeles, but the community here is spread all over the globe.

If you sent an add artist request, that means the system couldn't find and auto-approve the artist you wanted to add, right? You tried adding "The Great Big Joy Machine" via Add > Music Artist or Band and it rejected you?

...and I did find out how to mark other people's submissions correct myself. I understand now thanks guys
Glad to hear it. I can see how the location/steps for reviewing someone else's submission are little out of the way in this current site design. Good that you found it.
Your submissions are excellent, BTW. Thorough and precise... just as I've come to expect from good metal drummers.
Many thanks.

New feature announcement: Equipboard now tracks prices over time
None of the Price Histories I've looked at yet have lines connecting the dots. How many days/weeks of data do you think it will take for the trend lines to show up?

I am new to Equipboard and I am unable to add items
Hey, Welcome!
Thanks for all the great setup pics you recently uploaded. We're happy to have you in this community.
Please see this thread for workaround steps.
I can't promise a resolution timeline, but I have escalated this bug up to the site admins.

I'm not 100% sure what youre referring to. What is the Needs Review issue, exactly?
UPDATE: If the question is: "how do I review/approval other people's submissions?", please chime in. There have been many design changes on the site in recent years, and the process of reviewing other's submissions requires more clicks than it used to, so if you weren't able to find where to review a submission, that's good feedback.

IDK what guitar that is, but you gotta make it easy for people:
What guitar is this guy playing at 3:44?
2m2 months ago
Cool, when you get to 500 points here, you should be able to create an artist page for each iteration of the band, provided their MusicBrainz database entries see it the same way.

I don't think this search interface you've screenshotted has ever worked for me for adding gear to my Equipboard.
Is it annoying? yes.
I don't know why there's a search box in that menu if it doesn't work.
Workaround:
- Search for the gear you want to add to your Equipboard in the normal site-wide search.
- When you find what you want to add, go to that item's page and click "Save".
- Choose the list on your Equipboard you want to add it to and click "Next".

We built a music gear deals tracker - want your feedback
First impression: "It's a good thing I'm incorruptible and can't be seduced by blowout sales."
10 minutes later: "The MiniMoog Model D is $1000 off at B&H?!? Where's my credit card?!?"
A few observations:
The search box only searches the items currently shown onscreen, not the entire domain of items. E.g. All Categories > All Stores > search for "Fender". Result: only 2 Fender items are returned.
Pressing "Load More Deals" breaks any search terms currently active. E.g. Search for Fender, then press "Load More Deals". Result: the items loaded are not Fender items.
Resetting the Store filter is awkward. Filter results by just a single store, like "Thomann", then go back and try to add another store or reset back to all stores. Result: your only option is to uncheck that one store and hit apply, which resets the Store filter, but I wasn't sure what was going to happen when I unchecked the only option and hit Apply. Maybe I'm the only one that found this to be an odd interaction pattern?
There's currently some bad data when you filter by All Categories > All Stores > Biggest % Drop. The first couple results returned show $100 Fender strings and $20 Line 6 amps... those prices/sales don't really exist.
3m3 months ago
I'm not sure it's as straightforward as that.
In the Steven Colbert Era:
First they were Stay Human and lead by John Batiste.
Then Batiste left and they were Lois Cato and The Late Show Band.
Then the re-branded that lineup to Louis Cato and the Great Big Joy Machine.
John Batiste was never a member of a band called "Lois Cato and The Late Show Band" or "Lois Cato and The Great Big Joy Machine", so just listing all 3 iterations as "The Late Show Band" (like wikipedia does) seems like it gets the job done... but this is an odd situation.
Given the current band entry for The Late Show Band includes members of Stay Human, what do you think is best here?

Help How do i edit in a spotify and new band photo for a band?
Tried doing some artists that have the same name, especially with different careers, but I can't add the other ones to the band. It's not letting me do it. Can any one of you guys help me, please? Check the problem here. https://equipboard.com/pros/paul-hester1 Australian drummer for Crowded House/Split Enz
The Spotify link in Paul Hester's profile was pointing to techno producer Paul Hester, so the profile was throwing errors when you tried to update anything with that "duplicate" Spotify link in there. Deleted the erroneous Spotify link, profile seems to be accepting updates now. Let me know if you need anything else.

[Feature request] Ability to add to band discography
I agree it would be cool to add this ability.
Just FYI: albums were added to Equipboard just a few months ago -- it's a brand new feature, that's not even fully integrated into the site yet (you can't even search for albums by name on the site at the time of this post). We're all still learning how to work with this new entity in the database, what you can/can't do yet, etc.
I can't speak for the admins/devs on this one, but my gut says that adding albums that aren't on Spotify (or wherever they're pulling album info from) is probably not something they're likely to add near term.
I'd recommend reviving this thread in a few months to see where things are at re: albums.

Brand new search experience is live! Feedback please
Glad you're liking it overall! :)
Most definitely.
The new design feels like: "Wait... what changed? Isn't this how it's always worked? How could I have ever found anything if it DIDN'T work exactly like this?"
Thank you for resisting the dark urge to try and radically innovate search engine page results for no good reason. You've achieved a result that is the right kind of invisible.

Brand new search experience is live! Feedback please
I dig it, nice work!
Ultimate compliment: the morning you rolled it out, I put search through its paces on laptop and mobile, then tried to remember how it used to look/work, and... for a few moments... I couldn't.
I think that's a good sign.
A few notes:
Band results need thumbnails like the other category results. It's weird that bands are text-only right now.
Add album results. When I search for "Nevermind" I still don't get Nevermind.
The Top Matches results could use thumbnails of some sort. It's like the thing you're most likely to be after is quietly whispering to you, while all the categorized results below are shouting like Billy Mays.
