Ed Roland's Gear
Ed can be seen playing a McCarty Archtop during Collective Soul’s appearance at Woodstock 1999. He can also be seen playing a white version of this guitar later in the show during the song “Shine”.
According to Premier Guitar, this is one of his two acoustic guitars that he brings on tour.
Ed's first quality guitar was a Yamaha SG2000. "That's what everyone I liked played back in the '80s," he says. "Duran Duran. Big Country. It's such a cool guitar. It's one big, solid piece of wood, and it sustains forever. Unfortunately, mine got stolen. For all these years I wanted another one, but they were hard to find."
Roland also plays a Yamaha CPX900 acoustic. "Oh, I love that thing," he says. "First, I love the blue color. But you can't go by color alone--you've got to play it. The tone is amazing, and it's so durable for live playing. We tour a lot, and that guitar has really hung in there. It's, like, my little baby blue!"
According to Premier Guitar, this is one of his 2 acoustic guitars he brings on tour.
According to Premier Guitar, Roland uses this pickup on both of his acoustic guitars.
In the YouTube video "Collective Soul - Shine - 7/25/1999 - Woodstock 99 West Stage," Ed Roland is seen using a Shure U2 SM58 microphone, as documented by Alt Rock on MV.
