James Eller's Gear
I’ve used Gallien Krueger amplifiers since 1979, and in fact I’ve only ever owned three amps, all GK. My current rig is an RB1001 amp with CX410 and CX115, or NEO410 and NEO115 cabs.

I exclusively use D’Addario strings, EXL170s and 160s, with ECB80 Chromes on my fretless basses.
In his Instagram post, James Eller mentions using the OVNIFX Smoothie Compressor as part of his setup, alongside a P bass and a GK 1001RB Amplifier.
My other main basses are a pair of classic Squiers, an ’83 JV series Precision and an ’86 Jazz Bass, both of which are the best examples of their type I’ve ever played
GK recording rig. 400RB and MBX112. Super portable, deep, defined and punchy. Amazing.
I was introduced to Nordstrand by my friend Graham Drew, bassist and bass expert. I use Nordstrand NP4v and NJ4 vintage single coil pickups, which just sound ‘right’ to me.

I’ve just started using the NordyMute, which is outstanding in both the job it does and it’s ease of use.
James Eller mentioned using the DBX 120XP Subharmonic Synthesizer in his creative process for crafting elektro-disko bass lines, sequences, and drones, as shared on his Instagram.
I used a Boss OC2, (still using it) with an MXR Dynacomp immediately before it.
James Eller showcases the Retrospec Juice Box on Instagram, highlighting it as his choice of DI for recording bass in the studio.
Universal Audio LA610. Tube Preamp and Optical Compressor. My basses sound beautiful through it.
