Johnny April is pictured playing a G&L USA L-2500 bass in a photo featured by the Orange County Register.
This receipt verifies that a Carvin LB75 bass was sold and made for Johnny April in 2003. The proof is provided by an image of the receipt.
Around the beginning segment of the documentary of “Homegrown,” it would show clips of the Tormented Era, which tends to show a Femder P Bass Lyte (or something close to it) in a couple clips, like when the bands the early version of “Crawl” or the back of the bass when playing “Self Destruct”
In the "Everything Changes" music video by Staind, at the 3:09 mark, the body of the bass guitar played by Johnny April can be identified as a Peavey Cirrus BXP 5. But it’s rather hard to tell due to low quality.
Johnny April, while performing with his previous band Maniax, was documented playing a Peavey T-40 bass guitar. This was prior to his tenure with the band Staind, as evidenced by an image available on Equipboard.
Note: This was taking place before he joined Staind.
At approximately 23 minutes into the YouTube video titled "Staind - Chapter V Documentary," Johnny April is seen playing the a black Carvin AC50 5 String Semi-Hollow Acoustic Electric Bass Guitar with gold hardware during the acoustic performance of "It’s Been Awhile." This documentary was uploaded is part of the Chapter V Limited Edition Bonus DVD.
Johnny April is confirmed to use the Carvin XB75P bass guitar, as evidenced by the Carvin (now known as Kiesel) Museum Website. The site features an image of April alongside a quote from him stating:
I'd heard and read about the awesome specs and playability of Carvin basses. But, when I picked one up at a used music shop I couldn't put it down.
In Staind's MTV Unplugged performance in 2002, Johnny April can be seen using the Ibanez TTR 35B Talman Intertour acoustic bass, as evidenced in the video provided by MusicWithTopazVideo on YouTube titled "Staind - MTV Unplugged 2002 HD."
Johnny April is confirmed to use the B.C. Rich Paolo Gregoletto 5 Signature Warlock Bass, as evidenced by a photo on the Facebook fan page "We Love Staind & Aaron Lewis," where he is seen playing this bass. Although for what we know he never uses it for recording or performing. He simply just has it.
