McMillon discusses the guitar in an Instagram post:
If guitars could talk, this one and I would probably finish each other’s sentences. This is my 1976 tobacco sunburst @Gibsonguitar SG Standard dubbed “Sonya”. It was around my neck at every show through an entire decade of early shows and touring. The chunk of wood missing near the strings is from my pick slowly digging in show by show from my early bands up through The Story Changes, all the way up into my first years playing in @hawthornehgts. Purchased from one of my hometown heroes, Eric Purtle, it quickly became/still is my good luck charm. It doesn’t come out on the road much these days, but is still one of my go to’s when writing. Recently refretted by @codexhammer, it plays better than ever. Everything else is stock except the pickups, which are now a @seymourduncan JB in the bridge and a Phat Cat in the neck.
