Mike Chunn
Mike Chunn's Gear
Mike Chunn received this Mahogany bass in 1973 in a haul of instruments made by Peter Madill and given to Split Enz. This bass has become something of a signature instrument for Mike, he has played it through his career in the Enz and Citizen Band. He still owns it and plays it frequently… well so he told me
One of his earliest basses, Mike played this bass in his earlier groups like Moses and the starting period of Split Enz. Later in his career it was joined by a custom Madill bass and a number of Gibson bases. His Mustang Bass was likely made around 1970/71 with a competition orange finish on the body (complete with stripe) and a natural maple headstock. Around 1974 the bass was re-finished by Phil Judd in a gold colour
Mike can be seen wielding a Gibson Les Paul Triumph bass in a photo with Split Enz taken in Parnell in late 1974
