Mikey Welsh's Gear
The Gibson Ripper Black was used in the video for "Hash Pipe". Note: The source (http://bit.ly/1CINnvJ) states the bass might be from 1979.
Karl Koch, webmaster of official Weezer site and longtime friend of the band writes, "The amplifier, a Gallien-Kruger 800RB, remained in use until the Feb. 2001 "Outloud" tour, as a backup head. Mikey said he has been using it since he was a teenager ("my first amp"), and it's still going strong!"
This is from the Weezer's "Island in the Sun" video, shot in 2001. It is a stock model with a mahogany finish, 2-TB Plus Humbuckers, and 2 volume and 1 tone knobs. It appears to be a stock model. It's never been used live, and probably wasn't used in the Green Album sessions.
Mikey used a number of Fender Precision Basses on the Green Album and live shows. The picture above shows him with a white P-Bass with a rosewood fretboard and white tape over the tone knob. He has also been pictured using a black P-bass with a white pickguard in photos taken during the recording sessions for the Green Album.
In the provided image, Scott Shriner is visibly playing a Fender Jazz Bass.
In a photograph taken by Jeff Kroll on May 7, 2001, Mikey Welsh is seen with Dunlop Tortex Standard 0.88mm Guitar Picks in his pickstand, confirming his use of this gear. This image is credited to © Globe Photos/ZUMAPRESS.com, as sourced from Alamy.
