Phil Ochs
Phil Ochs' Gear
Throughout this video, Phil Ochs is playing a Gibson J-50. It was his primary acoustic guitar during the late '60s. It can also be seen in videos of live performances of "Flower Lady", "There But For Fortune", and "The War is Over", as well as numerous photos. It has some kind of inlay on the fretboard, replaced knobs on the tuning heads, and appears to be an adjustable bridge model.
In this video of the song "Changes" from the TV programme "Come, Read to Me a Poem", Phil Ochs can be seen playing a Gibson J-45. It is a common sight in photos of Ochs' live shows and album artwork from the early to mid-'60s.
On the album covers for Gunfight at Carnegie Hall and the photos hoot for his final studio album Greatest Hits, he is seen with a Hagstrom Viking II guitar, most likely to emulate the elvis record that the album cover was a parody of.
