Fender Precision Bass

Fender Precision Bass

Electric Basses
Color/Finish: Gloss Black Year: 1970s

He's holding his Fender P bass in this image, I can't tell when this photo is from, but it is during the Pleasures of The Flesh era. I know this because this first time you can see him with that custom humbucker in the bridge is after the Bonded by Blood tours. He originally recorded Bonded by Blood with this bass, but at the time it didn't have that humbucker in the bridge, it was just the precision pickup at the time. He probably recorded Pleasures of the Flesh with the humbucker in it because his bass seems to stand out a little bit more and because the mids seem higher than on Bonded by Blood. He also had a sick looking mirror pickguard on it, before the bass had the humbucker in it, it was an exact replica of Phil Lynott's original P bass, which was probably what he was going for. Especially because his bass tone sounds similar.

He plays this bass throughout this show. This bass was stickered up as you can see in the show. This bass was the second bass recorded with, we can see him with this bass as early as 1988, which is the late Pleasures of The Flesh era. He used this bass to record Fabulous Disaster and Impact is Imminent. He is seen using this bass up until his retirement from Exodus. This bass really helped change his tone up, obviously it could also be the possible amp changing, but this bass is lighter, thinner, and more metal than his p bass he had and used for the first two Exodus albums. This bass has active Spector Precision and Jazz pickups, it's neck through, and way thinner. His tone changed for the cool sounding thumby, yet aggressive sound of his p bass to this more clearer and dialed in bass tone as you can hear in the performance. The best example of this bass's tone is in the sadly short bass solo in Corruption. In this show at Studio 54 in 1985 shows some shots of his amps, it's a little bit hard to make out what the head is, but in some of the shots it can be seen that it has a very similar layout and the red stripe can be seen on it. 1:57 is the best shot I can find of it in this performance. It looks very similar to the one I have myself as well. He most likely record Bonded by Blood with this head, possibly also Pleasures of the Flesh.

At this show the cabinet can be seen at 1:57. It doesn't have any speaker covers, it doesn't seem to be the exact same cab, it's probably an older model, but it's the closest thing I could find on the Equipboard list.
