While Simon does use a Gibson bass with an SG body shape, his particular one is not the "GIbson SG Bass Guitar" as previously listed. The latest iteration of Gibson basses with an SG body shape feature a bridge pickup in addition to the neck-position "mudbucker," much like the classic EB-3, however, Simon's has no such bridge PU. Typically, the mudbucker-only configuration is present on Gibson EB-0, however, Simon's has the pickup farther away from the neck, a slightly different than usual pickguard design, and a three-way toggle switch (coil split function) over the knobs, indicating this to be a Gibson EB-4L, manufactured 1972–'75—one of the best and rarest instruments Gibson put out during their worst era (Norlin). Additionally, Simon definitely used this bass to record with The Oath, the mudbucker tone is unmistakable. The Oath used a particularly low tuning (C-standard) , which the short-scale EB-0 can't reasonably accommodate, but the 34.5" EB-4L can.
