group listed as an artist and not a band/group

I'm technically an admin, although I don't know why I wasn't made a moderator instead. Looking at both pages, I'm not given much option to change them, even to delete and redo things manually. I think the right course of action would be to delete the artist pages and create a new group page, or even edit the group pages that include them (i.e. the "groups" of Run DMC & Aerosmith, Moby & Public Enemy, respectively) but even as an admin, I'm not offered that functionality on Equipboard.

Equipboard Improvement Ideas

I've reached out to Equipboard via email on several topics and issues with the site, all of which I'm told to go through email to address. I have yet to receive correspondence back from the administrators at Equipboard in charge of the email.

  • I've reached out to fix artists who are listed as bands on the website, and therefore, can't have gear attributed to them. Further, they can't be added as artists because they're already listed as bands.
  • I've contacted about artists I've tried to submit manually not being added to the website, including Grammy-nominated artists, musicians in the bands of some of the biggest musicians in the world, artists whose bands are on the website, etc., and when I've reached out to moderators on the website about issues concerning the mechanics of adding artists manually, there have been errors on their end that have gone unresolved for months.
  • I've reached out about fixing gear attributed to artists that are incorrect, as there's no way to remove listings or change the gear within the same listing to accurately reflect the gear that artists use.
  • I've reached out about becoming a moderator on the website and to potentially help facilitate some of these changes happening, or at the very least contribute in the ways moderators are capable of currently.

On all of these topics (and presumably others I may be forgetting), I've gotten no response. This website is a great platform and has the potential to become much better, and it's unfortunate I've run into so many obstacles.

Equipboard Improvement Ideas

That's happened to me plenty, but this time was different. I figured out what it was, but it was strange. I didn't get the notification on Equipboard, but I did get it through email. Once I interacted with the post, the notification bubble was gone from Equipboard.

Now just hoping that the other things I've mentioned here (especially the issues with artist submission) get resolved. I also can't resubmit artists that I've tried to add once.

I have a red "1" by my notifications and no unread notifications. It's been that way for a few days now. Even just a simple "mark as read" function would be nice.

The system for editing submissions or rating their quality doesn't feel all that intuitive. We can rate the accuracy, but not much seems to happen with those rated partially or wholly incorrect. Sometimes I find I can edit the instrument in a submission, but most of the time not (even when it's my own submission). Puts us at a loss when we find more specific information on an instrument a player uses or need to make a fix for any reason.

Equipboard Improvement Ideas

It would be convenient to have a more clear and efficient way to add artists and bands to Equipboard (maybe a peer-review system like we have for verifying gear submissions). I've sent multiple requests for artists, including some whose bands are already on Equipboard, and most I've requested still haven't been added. Also, I only found out certain artists I requested were added when I saw it on the homepage for recently added artists. Maybe a notification system for artists you've requested have been added would be helpful, as well.

Revisiting this after a couple weeks. I've seen some agree that a revamp for the system to add artists. I'd like to posit something simple: for artists who are in bands documented on Equipboard (or at least the website that's used to cross-reference artists that are already established somehow), maybe connect the names of artists to the bands somehow? Part of my frustration about this initially was that there were bands on Equipboard with missing artists, and I've tried adding artists from those bands or supporting musicians for FAMOUS artists that still aren't on the website. Not sure if it would be worthwhile to revisit and resubmit those artists, but worth mentioning that.

The Hello-Thread: Please Allow Me To Introduce Myself 👋

I guess I want to format this sort of like a bio or an artist profile, in a sense. Give some background for my life, skills, and musical inspirations. I have a lot to share, and much of it feels important for describing myself and the music I make.

Hi. I go by Tower (they/them), I'm 23, I'm currently in the Twin Cities, MN, and I grew up with substantial instability in my life has informed much of my life-long musical experience (I'll explain and fill in details as I go).

I was born in Connecticut, and I moved around to many places in the US, but was primarily raised in South Florida. I've always loved music and I taught myself to read and play nursery rhymes by ear on the piano. Many throughout my childhood caught on to my interest and affinity for music in many forms and helped to nurture my ability to learn and grow musically. I've received some music education in academic settings, and even been gifted instruments and equipment from people who believed in me and the music I was making. However, I've been mostly autodidactic through my whole music career. I played primarily low brass when I started getting serious about music, but I've learned most brass, some woodwinds and percussion, and transitioned to playing more keys, guitar, bass, as well as singing and beatboxing in my adult life. I've been in everything from percussion ensembles to symphonic wind bands and jazz bands to orchestras to choirs and singing groups to bands in more contemporary styles of music later on. I also write and compose music, and I'd like to focus primarily on songwriting and producing as I continue to develop in my musical journey.

While I had many gifts and opportunities from a young age, there were also many setbacks and obstacles. Many of which came in the form of severe long-term trauma, abuse, and other instability that limited my ability to make the most of my abilities. Chronic mental and physical health problems, along with bouncing between several dozen houses and other living situations in childhood made it difficult to stay in school and in the musical groups I was a part of, and especially difficult to hold onto many material things, including instruments. Much of the support and the musical equipment gifted to me was just as readily taken away, whether it was left in loved ones' homes and storage units, broken in various tragic ways, or otherwise lost to time. While I'm fortunate to have the range of interesting musical and life experiences I've had, I'm certainly making up for lost time, health, and equipment in my adult years.

As I've transitioned from living with family to leading a more self-sufficient life, I'd eventually get diagnoses and start treatment for various health conditions I've been dealing with for most of my life: DID (dissociative identity disorder), complex PTSD, OCD, autism, ME/CFS, and FND with non-epileptic seizures, among others. I'm living with my partner now and working on getting Social Security Disability. As I receive the proper financial support to aid my health and live a relatively self-sufficient life, I've really embraced how important music is to me. I've wanted to invest in myself and the music I make with any disposable income I have.

My major goals with music right now are to write original music that synthesizes my various musical skills and my greatly varied life experiences in a way that's meaningful and relevant to other people and the sociopolitical climate of the modern world. In terms of gear, I'd love to have a home studio and be able to create my own music by myself (or at least have the ability to). Right now, I have a Yamaha Pacifica 112V (a budget strat-style guitar), a ukulele, a basic audio interface set up with a couple of mics, and my voice. My next priorities for instruments are a bass, an acoustic guitar, a MIDI keyboard, and a computer that can support a DAW.

Versatile Acoustic-Electrics?

Looking for something that's a good size (probably Grand Auditorium body). Something with scooped mids, but a nice balance. A guitar that has clarity when it comes to picking and fingerstyle, but something I can lay into and can be rich and full when you strum. I play in a lot of different styles, but primarily singer-songwriter, rock, R&B, and folk.

If you know of anything in the mid-range of prices, that'd be preferable, but I'm still learning and would love to hear any guitars that anyone's had positive experiences with. Thanks in advance :)
