My band is like if a bunch of dudes into classic heavy metal got into black metal really hard, but then years later decided to pump the brakes and play stoner type stuff, but they just can't let go of the Satan and blast beats.

I love Sleep, I'm actually seeing them next month in Indianapolis.
Mine isn't incredibly noisy. No more than my Butcher or anything else.

Vintage gear - is it worth it?
I sold the one I had like an idiot. I could probably just build one, though.

Metal kids growing into full blown metal adults, whatchu using? Do you prefer high gain amps or crunchy with a boost? What gear are you looking to get to up your live or studio game? How do you like your corn flakes?
Currently: Guitars: 1973 Guild S-100C 2008 Gibson Flying V Both loaded with DiMarzio X2Ns in the bridge, but might be switching to Lace soon.
Amps: Peavey Butcher or ADA MP-1 preamp paired with whatever I feel like luggin around as a power amp that week
Cabs: Peavey 412MS URUZ 4x12 prototypes 1, 2, and 3
Effects: Dragonfly BM-1 Black Metal Pedal EHX Holy Grail Nano

Peavey Mark III head if you live in the states. I got mine in 2010 for $100 and it's been my band's main bass head ever since. Taken it all over the country and it's never failed to turn on and be loud. We've used it was 4x10s, 8x10s, 2x15s, 1x15s, 1x18s, 2x18s, Peavey 1810s (two 10s and an 18 with a crossover), Peavey 3620s (two 10s and TWO 18s with a crossover), and even a couple bass 4x12s. We use dirty bass and have sometimes ran the head's pre gain and done just fine, but anymore we use pedals, and anyone who says these amps can't get clean isn't trying hard enough.
Peavey Poverty Cult.

I adore the Distortion + and I'm probably buying another one tomorrow. Lots of classic and also incredibly dense tones to be had from those.

While I definitely think that we're living in the golden age of affordable import guitars of very high quality, I just love old instruments and amps. My main guitar is a 1973 Guild S-100C (the one with oak leaf and acorn relief carved from the body), and every time I pick it up, I'm amazed by it. It's beat to hell from neglect from before I bought it, but somehow it just feels right. The nect size and contour feels incredibly modern and slim, especially for a guitar made in America in the 70s.
TL;DR try out stuff! You'd be amazed what works. A lot of guitarists anymore tend to bemoan that guitar players seem stuck in the past with using mahogany guitars and tube amps when should be playing with carbon fiber this or that and modeling amps. But I just always go back thinking "eh, different strokes". We still use cars that run on gasoline too.

If I ever go fuzz, it's almost never a warm sounding one. I like the silicon chainsaw fuzz sound a lot, prime example being the Boss Hyper Fuzz used on Electric Wizard's "Dopethrone".

My first one was a First Act combo. The model escapes me. Then I got a Fender FM100 head and the matching 4x12. The first amp I owned that I thought was incredibly mega cool, however was a 50 watt Laney Pro Tube AOR, the eight knob version. I miss that amp every day.

My vote goes to Eric Peterson from Testament. One fo the more underrated rhythm guitarists in metal.

What string gauges does everyone use?
DAddario EJ22s. 13-56 with a wound third. We tune to C standard.
