Omar has produced multiple bands: Le Butcherettes, Juliette Lewis, and Apollo. He also has a producer's credit on every mars volta album. Omar engineers and mixes many of his own projects as well. He played bass in De Facto, early ATDI, Le Bucherettes, and some of TMVs noctourniquet album. Several of omar's albums can be described of as "jazz". Most notably "omar rodriguez lopez", "apocalypse inside of an orange", and "woman gives birth to tomato". Omar also does all of the synth and drum machine programming in his music, thereby qualifying him as an electronic artist. Several of his albums are completely electronic (see: octopus kool-aide, and "tychozorente". Omar has written film scores for several films, most notably "the sentimental engine slayer", "el bufalo de la noche", and "Burning Plain" which was a collaboration with Hans Zimmer.
