Rick Turner Guitars Electroline Bass

John McVie, bassist for Fleetwood Mac, has a longstanding history with Rick Turner's instruments, beginning in the early 1970s with a custom Series 1 bass. By 1997, McVie was using a Rick Turner Electroline Bass during Fleetwood Mac's tours, including their live album "The Dance."

Tobias Basic 4

In this video from Fleetwood Mac: The Dance, you can see John playing his Tobias (I believe it is a Classic instead of a Basic, but that was not an option).

Check the 1:40 mark for a great example of his playing, and a clear view of the bass.

Effects Pedals used by Lindsey Buckingham on The Dance

Overdrive Effects Pedals

Boss SD-1 Super OverDrive

Avg price: $64.99

Used live for The Dance and his 2012 solo tour (which includes, by extension, One Man Show), as mentioned in this October 1997 Guitar interview and in this October 9, 2012 Premier Guitar Rig Rundown article.

Guitar, October 1997, "Lindsey Buckingham: Back in Mac" by Mike Mettler

In addition to his trusty Turners, Buckingham leaned heavily on his solid-body '92 Gibson Chet Atkins, notably during The Dance's back-to-back readings of 'Go Insane' and 'Big Love'. 'Landslide' sees the debut of a new, "delicate-sounding" Taylor acoustic, and 'Say You Love Me' gets its own special revamping: "There I'm playing a longneck 5-string banjo, getting a little bluegrassy on the intro, and then I slip right into the folkiness of the song."

For amps, Buckingham switched from the older Mesa/Boogies he'd used on his solo tour to Dual Rectifiers. "The Mac sound is a bit bigger and I needed something beefier," he explains. "And I'm still not using a major amount of pedals, just a Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive and a Boss DD-5 Digital Delay."

Premier Guitar, Rig Rundown, "Lindsey Buckingham" by Jason Shadrick (October 9, 2012).

He uses minimal effects, just a Boss SD-1 and Boss DD-3 Delay for his electric rig and a Boss DD-3 delay and Boss RC-30 looper with background vocals and a little bit of guitar for a few acoustic songs. For nylon-string, he uses chorus and reverb from the amps.

Acoustic-Electric Guitars

Rick Turner Guitars RN6 Renaissance Nylon String

A single-knob RN6 was used for "Bleed for Her Love" in The Dance (Buckingham can be seen first strapping on the guitar at 30:14) and is attested by Lemmo of Norman's Rare Guitars in this March 26, 2021 demo of another single-knob RN6 at 3:05.

First time I saw one of these was with Lindsey Buckingham, one of my favorite artists. I saw him in 2008 on, I believe it was the Gift of Screws tour and he played Berklee College of Music and I was a complete mess after the show, haha! It was so good! Just like, wow.
