quote SHAFFER: We had problems with mud in the studio while we were doing our first record [Korn (Immortal/Epic)] because we tune down and use a lot of gain. When you have two guitars that sound like that, it becomes too much. We tried to get rid of the mud by bringing in a Big Muff pedal that we turned all the way up, as that usually compresses the frequency response and tightens up the sound. The Big Muff actually made it sound even more muddy, but it also created this really cool texture, so we decided to take what initially appeared to be a problem and incorporate in into our music.

Overdrive Effects Pedals

Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer

Avg price: $97.88

Chorus Effects Pedals

Ibanez BC-9 Bi-Mode Chorus

Avg price: $244.80

This pedal has been in use since Korn’s debut album and remained a key part of Munky’s setup for many years. It has been used on songs like Fake, Lost, Swallow, Good God, No Place to Hide, A.D.I.D.A.S, Ass Itch, Kill You, It's On!, B.B.K, My Gift to You, Somebody Someone, Did My Time, and more. This is the oldest pedal in Munky’s pedalboard, consistently used since the Korn album. However, it was no longer present in The Serenity of Suffering era, as it was missing in his most recent Rig Rundown. The pedal can be seen clearly at the 11:05 mark.
