“Geloso S.p.A” was the name of the company set up back in the 1930s and its founder was Giovanni Geloso, an engineer. It became an immediate success as a result of his outstanding accomplishments and his philosophy: he took the right decisions at the right time, most importantly to manufacture high quality products at low prices. Over the following decades the firm’s products included electrical components and systems, the first TV sets, amplifiers and much more. Eventually it focused its activities on electromechanical engineering: product design, manufacture and testing of materials, resistors, moulded, mica and electrolytic condensers, loudspeakers, transformers, transmitters, magnetos, commutators, switches… The company also designed and built production and test equipment and instrumentation.

Its products gradually became known throughout Italy, in fact many Italians were introduced to and learnt about the world of electronics thanks to the celebrated Bollettini Tecnici Geloso, published by the firm. For enthusiastic radio hams and amateur radio technicians these modest house magazines were the only source of guidelines and know-how for assembling radio receiver kits. It was through sales of these kits that radio became so popular across Italy, especially in the country’s poorest regions. During these years Italy’s only specialized school – a private one, what’s more – was Istituto Radiotecnico A. Beltrami in Milan, Via Circo 4. Thousands of youngsters attended evening classes here, learning about the mysteries of Hertzian waves as they pored over books written by Montù, Recla, Ravalico and others. Geloso’s finest years were the period 1950-65. Then came massive competition from the economically stronger USA, forcing the company first to downsize and eventually to wind up its operations. Shure microphone 520D Dual Impendance Model

In 1970 Shure designed a dual impedance controlled magnetic transducer and began to use them in the green bullet mics which were now being called the 520D. The element was labeled as model 99S556. The first 520D's were made in Evanston, and for the first time, the tags now incorporated a serial # where the impedance used to be stamped. The tags were still the dark emerald green, smooth surfaced, and basically the same as the previous tags, except for the serial #. The grille's on the US made 520D's have a brushed nickel finish just like the older 520's, and the shell's were exactly the same color as the 520's as well. The Mexican made 520D's were painted a slightly darker green and didn't have a glossy finish like the US made models, and the grille's were no longer brushed nickel, rather they were painted silver giving the 520D a whole new look. After 1970 when the 520D introduced the dual impedance CM elements being used in the green bullet mics were now being assembled in Mexico with US made parts.520D as strong and has just as good tone as the vintage elements tone.

his version of the SG Standard was produced only for two years and was launched on the market in 1971 with the name of SG Deluxe, in order to emphasize a parallelism with the Les Paul line. However it was an atypical design, which kept the same woods as the Standard - and the same twin-humbucker circuitry as well (both pickups had the embossed logo on their covers). All the electronics were installed on a large semi-circular plastic plate. The guitar you see here is a very fine example of the model: as you can see, the hardware includes a modern Tune-O-Matic "Nashville" bridge and Grover tuners with the double brand Grover/Gibson. Gibson brand appears also on the Bigsby-style vibrato tailpiece. The body is entirely made of mahogany, just like the three-piece neck, in the tradition of the SG line.
